Some kids get more than funny red spots with measles. Ear infections occur 1 in 10 cases, and can lead to permanent hearing loss. Severe hearing loss in early childhood can cost as much as $800,000 in medical treatment and lost income across the lifespan. Vaccination works and helps kids live longer, healthier lives. 😊

We are exploring bringing a surgical robot to Seattle for cochlear implant surgery! Robotic cochlear implant insertion of the cochlear implant electrode decreases trauma to the cochlea. This may improve preservation of residual hearing–but the data isn't there, yet.

We're really excited to see the results of Hear Advisor, created by the excellent folks at Hearing Tracker. Hear Advisor tests hearing aids using a rigorous and objective testing battery. The results show a wide variety of results! Well worth the visit for anyone looking at the most cost effective hearing aids. The financial cost of being born deaf like me is nearly $1M, mostly in lost income, and is only partially mitigated by cochlear implants. Ranking for the search "deaf surgeon" leads 25 people a month to my site. I like to imagine that each is a kid or parent learning that others can do it, too. 🤩⭐️🚀💫

The event is over, but it's not too late to make a donation to help needy people get cochlear implant equipment. CI equipment is expensive without insurance and warranties. Replacement batteries cost $300, cables over $100, and processors are $5,000.

Any small amount helps someone hear and communicate so they can achieve their own dreams. 🤗
