Mario and Luigi were sharing community resources at the OIC of Washington Harvest Carnival last week!

It was a great way to connect with the Yakima community, and they even had a Mario Party reunion with Yoshi, Shy Guy, and Baby Mario. Wahoo! 🍄 ⭐

As the federal government shutdown continues, food benefits have been delayed. If you are a recipient of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), your benefits will likely not be provided at the start of this month.

At CHPW, we understand that this news can be concerning, which is why we've put together some resources for families whose access is at risk.

You may have already heard that if the current federal government shutdown continues past October 31, 2025, food benefits won’t be available in November through the State’s Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS).

This means that if you are a recipient of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), your food benefits will not be provided in November.

We understand the stress this news may bring. With the help of community partners, we've put together a list of resources to help support you and your family, if needed.

We're excited to share that the Anacortes Family Center is using their unrestricted $10,000 grant from CHPW on their emergency shelter services! This funding will support their life-skills classes, rent-ready classes, and employment support.

The Anacortes Family Center is working hand-in-hand with families and individuals to achieve this goal through emergency sheltering, caseworker services, and group and individual learning sessions. CHPW is incredibly proud to partner with them, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration. 💛 🩵

It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we wanted to answer the three most frequently asked questions we get about mammograms!

❓How do mammograms work?

A mammogram is a low-dose x-ray that takes a picture of the breast to look for signs of cancer. It can find lumps that are too small for you or your provider to feel.

❓Does it hurt?

While the test can be uncomfortable and may be painful for some people, they are short, and the discomfort should be brief. If you are in pain during the test, let your technician know. You can also ask for a break.

❓How long does it take?

The test is quick. The appointment is typically 30 minutes, and the test usually lasts less than 20 minutes. And after your mammogram, you’ll be able to get back to your usual activities right away.

Did you know that care management is covered for every CHPW member?

Here are some things a case manager may be able to help with:

-Finding providers who are in network
-Understanding what is covered by your insurance and what is not
-Managing chronic conditions (including working with you on exercise and diet changes)
-Coordinating care among different providers and services
-Connecting you with community resources you might qualify for like food, clothing, caregiving services, and rides to appointments
-Planning for what happens after you leave the hospital
And more!

Who we are

For nearly 30 years, we’ve provided access to quality Medicaid coverage to Washington’s residents in their own communities. We expanded to cover Medicare patients in 2007. All of our coverage is geared toward a model of care that treats the whole person and fosters trust, compassion, respect, and equality.

We were founded in 1992 by Washington’s community health centers. The CHCs wanted to form an insurance plan that would help coordinate care and advocate for people who were not being served by traditional insurance companies. We became the first not-for-profit managed care plan founded by Community Health Centers in the state, and today we are still the only not-for-profit to provide managed care to Apple Health members.

Our mission is to deliver accessible managed care services that meet the needs and improve the health of our communities, and make managed care participation beneficial for community-responsive providers. We work for patients, and we work to help providers better serve those patients.
