Let's talk cold hard cash! Right now, the average cost of open heart surgery is around $100,000, and that is without complications (it can be more). Currently, Medicare covers this at 80%, meaning you are responsible for 20 percent. So, 20% of $100,000 is $20,000. That is how much you are responsible for with insurance!!! Now let's keep going. You have to have cardiac rehab after. That can cost up to $245 (depending on program). Once again Medicare pays at 80% and you cover 20 percent. So, 20% of 245 is $49. Multiply that by the 36 sessions you would need (you go three times per week for 12 weeks), that is $1,764. The grand total for open heart surgery and cardiac rehab is a whopping $21,764 WITH INSURANCE! Wouldn't it just be cheaper to work with me and prevent all of this from happening? I think so too! Now, if this was an accurate graphic, the coronary artery in question would be right about where the purple arrow is pointing too. It is the Left Anterior Descending (LAD), better known as the "Widow Maker". First question you may have is, "What is a coronary artery?" Coronary arteries are arteries in your heart that feed your heart oxygenated blood. Pretty important, wouldn't you say? Well, the LAD feeds your heart 50 PERCENT of that oxygen rich blood, so if you have a blockage there, and you don't get intervention soon, your spouse will be a widow. Hence the nickname, "Widow Maker". Your next question may be, "How do I know if I have a blockage?" My answer is always this, "Knowing is half the battle." So, I would recommend a cardiac workup. Healthcare providers can tell a lot by just your blood, but if you don't make an appointment, we will never get those crucial clues to come to an informed conclusion. So put a little JOY in your heart and....GET CHECKED!

Did you know that soaking in the tub, one of my favorite forms of rest, helps your heart? The heat from the water causes blood vessels to dilate (widen). This lowers your blood pressure and improves blood flow, reducing the strain on your heart. We all have tubs in our house, so let's put them to good use.

If you missed the mass meeting yesterday, you missed the meeting!! The atmosphere was electric! Information I learned was priceless! So there is a potential bill floating in the stste congress that could prevent your children from receiving healthcare by not being insured. I implore you to become informed…now more than ever. Not just be informed about your health, but also, be informed about the LAWS that will affect you! Knowing is half the battle and it is extremely powerful.
