It’s the Winter Solstice. The season of darkness, reflection and pretending we’re fine. Nature is in full cozy-blanket mode. Trees are resting, the earth is quiet, and light is slowly - very slowly - finding its way back. And surprise, surprise… we’re doing the same thing.
This is the season where emotions pop up uninvited, motivation goes missing, and everything feels a little heavier. That’s not you “losing your sparkle.” That’s your inner world syncing with the dark-to-light reset happening all around you. Darkness isn’t bad...it’s where recalibration happens.
Now add the holidays into the mix… aka forced cheer season 🎄😅. Be joyful! Be busy! Be social! Meanwhile your nervous system is like, “Ma’am, I would like a nap and zero eye contact.” This mismatch messes with the psyche. Hello mood swings, nostalgia, grief, overstimulation and random tears in the car. Totally normal.
Winter is asking us to slow down, not perform. To feel instead of fix. To rest without explaining ourselves. The light comes back when it’s ready, not because it was pushed. Same goes for you.
So here’s to leaning in while we wait, trusting the return of light, and remembering that this, like everything else, is temporary. And yes… I’m laying on the couch writing this between cookie batches in the oven 🍪✨..which feels like a very accurate metaphor for the season.
