NEWS: Colton was chosen to try out for an experimental trial on his eyes. He flies out on July 18 and goes from Bakersfield to Dallas and then Texas to Portland, Oregon— not sure why he has to fly out of his way except that it’s paid for and that is what they offered. I was hoping to go, but he has chosen to take his girlfriend of four years- which is fine, too. He stays up there for a few days and then flies back on July 21 to Phoenix and then into Bakersfield.

Luckily the study is covering his flight and motel room. All he has to pay for is food.

Colton has lost the last remaining vision he has. A couple months ago, he reported to his eye dr that he was seeing fireworks- those were the last of his rods- or rods- exploding- for the most part, his visual world is black. I won’t be ipdating anymore mail because I don’t know if he will ever see it. I’ll keep it in the event a miracle cure comes about and he will be able to see his photos one day.

Colton is applying and was conditionally accepted to a program in Oregon- it is experimental and I’m nervous about it. Now that my son is 25, he can decide these things on his own.

I will post sometime this summer with an update.

Last week Colton got his genetic results back and he has LCA, the most severe form of RP. His affected gene is CEP290. You can bet I will be pushing these scientists to find a treatment or cure for this, esp now I know exactly what he has.

He still has to go through neuro tests and get a thyroid test. Hos symptoms are consistent with hyperthyroidism.

Poor kid. Anyone who knows me knows I do 150% for my sons... or anyone I love. Prayers appreciated.

Colton went to UCLA yesterday. He had his Exam. Eyesight worse... started genetic testing. I am hoping he doesn't have Refsum or NARP... but I will be there for him no matter what.

Good news so far. Colton's brain and spinal CT came back good. No cancer. No neurological disorder that he can see. Dr does not have his blood tests back yet. Could be diabetes. Idk. I'm relieved it isn't a major illness so far.....

The dr thinks he has short fiber neuropathy, whatever that is.

Also, Colton's UCLA appt was pushed back toward the end of August due to the pandemic. :-( This year he is getting genetic testing to see what gene is faulty and to check if he has any other conditions related to RP. The gal just called me this am. I was ready to take him on July 15. Anyhow... that is the way it goes I suppose.... thank you for keeping Colton in your prayers. Laura ♥️

Colton had a blood test last Saturday. His liver numbers are off. He also has a neurology appt in mid June. His dr is going to take a new test in June. I was hoping RP was the worst he would have to deal with... I hope.
