As we come to the final days of 2025, I wanted to share one last teaching that has been sitting with me.
Last week’s classes were inspired by conversations with my dear friend and fellow teacher, Craig. Our talks opened something in me about energy, light, and what it means to keep showing up when the world feels heavy. We held space for grief, exhaustion, and hope all at once.
I’ve been thinking about Einstein’s reminder that energy never dies; it only transforms. Light is energy. This means every one of us carries an undying light within, even when it feels dim or buried.
Let’s be honest: many of us are living in very dark times. Personal loss, health challenges, global unrest, and the "forced cheer" of the holidays can make it feel overwhelming to even try to "find the light."
But we just passed the Winter Solstice. From here on out, each day grows a little brighter outside. Maybe that’s the reminder we need that the same is true within us. I don’t have a magic wand to take away pain, but I do have the responsibility to remind us all: We are made of light. What we do with that light matters.
We can let it be extinguished by fear... or we can protect it and use it to spread compassion. In class, a student shared the parable of the Two Wolves: one is fueled by love and peace, the other by fear and hate. The one that wins is the one you feed.
As you move through these final days, my wish for you is this: Feed the light. Feed the good.
✨ A Short Candle-Gazing Practice:
Light a candle and sit comfortably.
Soften your gaze toward the flame.
Notice its steadiness, even as it flickers.
Take 5 slow breaths, silently repeating: “The light within me is steady and enduring.”
Close your eyes and imagine that flame glowing in your heart.
Note: The Yoga Barn will be closed after class on Tuesday, 12/23, and will reopen on my birthday, Monday, 1/5/26. Thank you for being the greatest gift of my 2025. Rest well and tend to your light.
