I help athletes solve muscle, joint, & pelvic floor problems so they can train the way they love again

Kegels can be a helpful tool when someone is weak, has low endurance, or struggles to recruit muscles in the pelvic floor, but it's a tiny stepping stone in rehab

After a knee surgery you don't just get instructed to do 100 quad sets (tense your quad) a day and move on

You get a comprehensive rehab plan that (should) take you back to fill function with running, jumping, cutting, etc

Pelvic floor therapy can be the same way. Just because you became a mom doesn't mean you aren't an athlete anymore. Stop accepting care that sees you as anything less.

You don't need more kegels, you need a comprehensive rehab program built for your goals

Spoiler alert...I disagree

Leakage is a common issue in pregnancy and postpartum, but it's not normal

There are different types of urinary incontinence and finding the right solution to your leakage problems starts with understanding what type of incontinence you're experiencing

During pregnancy and postpartum changes in muscle strength and intra-abdominal pressure are often a major factor leading to stress urinary incontinence

But not everyone who leaks has weakness. Some have too much tension. Some have poor coordination. For many it's a combination of those factors.

And if you're experiencing more of an urge incontinence that sends you sprinting to the bathroom, then more behavior changes and toileting habits may be at play

Pelvic floor therapy can help address these symptoms at any stage, even in pregnancy and the early weeks after baby

Was this part of your story? When did you finally get care? Or are you still living with leaks?

Plantar flexed, hip externally rotated, knee and hip very flexed, weight shifting right over the toe, holding a tiny bolt...what sport needs to train all of this?

It's hard to generate power from end range and maintain balance and to trust such a small little ledge for support

Sometimes training requires you to get creative, so what are we training for here? Drop your guess in the comments

For me, pregnancy came with a lot of unexpected turns, a lot of anxiety, a lot of questions

The first time around nothing went to plan.

The second time had curve balls completely different from the first

But I learned a lot.

I dug deep in the research. I became a doula, I learned more about the pelvic floor, about exercise in pregnancy and postpartum.

I got creative in finding ways to exercise within restrictions, my birth plans and contingency plans

I've lived through preterm delivery, a C-section, the NICU, blood clots in my lungs, modified bed rest, an unmedicated VBAC (no spinal anesthesia on Lovinox)

I've talked to countless moms who got bad exercise advice that ignored their unique circumstances

I've supported so many postpartum women who had their birth plan fall apart and carry trauma and shame because their birth prep class taught them that they needed to birth a certain way. And others who felt like they only leaned a bit about interventions and had no tools to navigate the stages of labor.

I knew that if as a pelvic floor PT and doula I was struggling to navigate it all, it must be really hard for other moms as well

Aches and pains and pelvic floor dysfunction are common in pregnancy, but many are very treatable. You deserve to be heard and supported

If you want a support system that follows you through your whole journey, check out our Bump to Birth program

Trying to build glute strength but your hip flexors keep taking over?

Adding sliders reduces the need to lift the leg and focuses lateral walks into the hip abductors

The outer glute helps support a level pelvis and helps build a solid foundation for a healthy pelvic floor

So if all those lateral walks aren't hitting your glute, try adding a slider and feel the burn ๐Ÿ‘
