Codependency is often joked about as someone who can't go to the restroom alone. BUT-- it's often more like:
Being hyperaware of others' needs (do they need the restroom/did they just use the restroom?)
Being disconnected from own needs (when was the last time I used the restroom before it became urgent?)
Feeling insecure about prioritizing needs (oh I don't mind waiting, you go ahead and use the restroom first).
Avoiding conflict/prioritizing others wants over your own (is it okay if I use the restroom? I'm really sorry I'll be unavailable when I do)
Controlling patterns/ micromanaging (you really should use the restroom, I'll be a little offended if you don't take my advice to)
Dysregulation/regulation in relation to others (I won't be okay if you aren't okay-- so use the restroom).
**kind of used the restroom metaphor tongue-in-cheek here to paint the picture. But sometimes it's really "not that deep" as the youth say. Other times, it is.
