Winter and the Element of Water: EASE

Winter is connected to the water element in Chinese Medicine, which represents flow, adaptability, and depth. It’s a reminder to nourish your body and mind with practices that support your inner reserves, like staying hydrated, eating warm foods, and allowing time for quiet reflection.

When there’s flow, everything feels EASIER. And that’s the goal of vitality-everything is functioning so well that it is EASY. As in, so easy you don’t even think about it.
How do you replenish yourself in the winter? What part of your life do you wish were easier? Hot tip–I can help support you in realizing that wish!

Back Pain Doesn’t Have to Move In Permanently This Winter

Back pain often flares up during the colder months, whether from sitting too much, old injuries, or shoveling snow. Acupuncture helps ease back tension, improve flexibility, and support long-term healing.

By improving circulation and calming muscle tension, acupuncture relieves pain naturally, helping you feel stronger and more supported. Many patients notice reduced stiffness and better mobility after just a few treatments.

Types of back pain we commonly help with:
● Sciatica (pain radiating down the leg)
● Lower back stiffness or chronic pain
● Muscle spasms or tension in the back
● Herniated or bulging discs (non-surgical relief)
● Postural pain from long hours sitting or working

Winter Is the Season of Rest and Renewal: The Power of No, Thank You

In Chinese Medicine, winter is a time to slow down and nurture yourself. The season is all about conserving energy, just like nature does—trees stop growing, animals hibernate, and the world feels quieter. It’s the time of year when seeds gather their strength, before flourishing into their full expression in spring and summer.
I try to embrace this rhythm by allowing myself more rest, staying cozy, and saying no to things that drain my energy. It’s not laziness; it’s intentional renewal. Our bodies and minds need this pause to recharge. Yes, it’s safe–essential really–to take it easy this time of the year. The dividends will pay off for the entire year!!

What’s one way you can embrace rest this winter? Maybe it’s an early bedtime, a warm cup of chamomile and goji berry tea, or simply giving yourself permission to pause. What do you want to say no to this week?

Sinus Congestion? Acupuncture to the Rescue!

Winter often brings sinus congestion from colds, allergies, or sinus infections. That constant pressure, stuffy nose, and difficulty breathing can be frustrating, but acupuncture can help.
It works by improving circulation in the sinus area, reducing inflammation, and supporting your immune system to clear congestion and prevent it from coming back. Many patients feel immediate relief and easier breathing after treatment.

We can help with sinus-related concerns such as:
● Sinus pressure and pain (acute or chronic)
● Seasonal allergies that cause congestion
● Sinus infections with lingering symptoms
● Headaches caused by sinus pressure
● Post-nasal drip and throat irritation

We can help you breathe easy again! Call or text 920.633.3033 to schedule your free consultation.

Knee Deep in Winter? Let’s Talk Knee Pain

Cold weather can bring more stiffness, discomfort, and achy joints—especially in the knees. If you’re dealing with arthritis, an old injury, or general knee pain, acupuncture is a natural way to support joint health and mobility.
Acupuncture improves circulation, reduces inflammation, and helps restore movement so you can get back to your day without discomfort. Yes to more walks! Yes to your new health routines! Yes to more mobility without even thinking about your knees. Our patients report less stiffness and better range of motion after a course of acupuncture treatments.

Common knee pain conditions we treat include:
● Osteoarthritis or “wear-and-tear” knee pain
● Runner’s knee (patellofemoral pain syndrome)
● Post-surgical knee pain and stiffness
● Ligament strains or sprains (ACL, MCL injuries)
● Tendonitis or inflammation around the knee joint

Let’s get your knees feeling good again! Call or text 920.633.3033 to schedule your free consultation today.

Reflect and Recharge for the New Year

Like much of the county, I'm recovering from a nasty virus that hit me New Year's Eve. I've been taking my herbs and getting lots of rest to recharge for the year ahead. I feel very blessed to be part of this wonderful community and look forward to helping you reach your wellness goals this year.

Winter is the season for introspection in Chinese Medicine. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the year behind you and set gentle intentions for the year ahead—not the “do everything perfectly” kind of resolutions, but the “what would nourish me?” kind.

For me, this means taking an inventory and listening to my body. Sometimes what nourishes me is to rest. Sometimes what nourishes me is to move. My body tells me what KIND of movement. And sometimes, let’s be honest, I just get really cranky and that’s code for it’s time to move OR rest.

It might be as simple as adding 15 minutes of sleep a night, making a point of staying connected with loved ones by sending them funny memes or texts, or dedicating more time to nourishing activities like cooking and reading. Winter reminds me that growth happens even in stillness.

What’s one intention you’re carrying into the new year? I’d love to hear how you’re nurturing yourself as we move through this season.
