Clear skies and smooth sailing ahead would be great, however we know life isn’t always that way. But you can choose how to carry on, even with bumps in the road or grey skies. Keep believing in yourself, take deep breaths, stay present, and enjoy every bit of December and the holidays. Make time for a walk outside, an afternoon of skiing, or any taste of sunshine or nature you can find. Call a friend to join you and keep that healing energy going.

Practicing gratitude can do more than make you feel good for the time being, it brings bigger, longer-term benefits, too. It can decrease “the chances of a person being adversely affected by a circumstance or disorder,” says MHFA. We encourage you to start practicing gratitude right now — notice things around you that you’re grateful to have in your life or just in this moment, such as good friends, beloved pets, a cozy place to sit, the sound of rain falling, or the glow of the moonlight. “Writing these thoughts down or saying them aloud can even help you stay positive during difficult times,” says MHFA. November is a time to focus on men’s health. How can you get involved? Bring up important health topics with your friends and family members — heart health, preventive prostate cancer screenings, mental health. No topic should be taboo and by talking about them or even just checking on a friend to ask how they’re doing, we peel back the layers and help ensure all men get the care they need. Movember Foundation says, “Mental health and su***de prevention, prostate cancer and testicular cancer – we’re taking them all on.” Let’s join Movember and other movements and make ourselves, our friends, our families, our coworkers, and our communities healthier. Look at your own reflection and really see what is there — appreciate yourself and what you contribute, and work on yourself to be an even better, more fulfilled version of you. Schedule that annual physical, that colonoscopy, that therapy appointment. You’ve got this and we’ve got your back. ***deprevention
