If you’ve ever worried that walking poles will add strain to your arms, you’re not alone. It sounds logical, you’re using your arms more, so they must get more tired, right?
Not necessarily.
Walking poles don’t work like traditional weight-bearing devices. Instead of pushing straight down, you plant the poles at an angle and use them to support forward momentum. The load is distributed across your shoulders, back, core, and legs, not concentrated in your wrists. That often means less isolated arm fatigue, not more.
Good technique also improves posture. Your chest opens, shoulders relax, and your arms swing naturally instead of bracing or gripping tightly.
