Health Equity International provides essential health and support services for people in need. Boniface Hospital, the largest healthcare provider in southern Haiti. We built this special place from the ground up, together with the community we serve. We designed every service to meet and evolve with our patients’ needs. Our doors are always open, and no one is ever turned away because they cannot pay. Here, medical professionals from across the country come to learn and expand their skills. And our community health programs help people get care without having to travel far. Health Equity International believes good health helps everyone reach their full potential. Through quality, dignified, compassionate services, we are building a healthier world.

Our spinal cord injury (SCI) center has been busy since it opened after the 2010 earthquake. While supporting patients with an SCI is the core of our work, we help all kinds of patients with mobility needs. Last year, we held 4,000+ physical and occupational therapy sessions—over 300 per month on average!

After the 2010 earthquake, life expectancy for survivors with spinal cord injuries (SCIs) was just four years. We created our SCI rehabilitation center because survivors deserved better. Sixteen years later, the survivors we treated are thriving. And in that time, we have helped thousands of patients with SCIs, disabilities, and injuries heal and regain their independence. We are proud of this special place!

Sixteen years ago, a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake changed Haiti forever. On this somber day, we remember the family members, neighbors, and friends we lost and will forever mourn. We also remember how we rose to care for one another in the weeks and months that followed, and how that same spirit of konbit carries us through today.

This adorable newborn is one of 11 babies born at St. Boniface Hopsital yesterday. We are caring for an enormous number of women ready or near-ready to deliver—we've even had to bring more than a dozen additional beds into the maternity ward to accommodate everyone. We're working around the clock to make sure every mother and child receives the compassionate, dignified care they deserve.

Our community health workers are always on the move! These trusty motos are one of the best ways to get around the rough, mountainous roads in southern Haiti. We can't let anything stop us from delivering the best possible care to as many people as we can.
