A New Journey

A New Journey Hello, my name is Coach Dee. I am a recovering addict who has reconnected with society since 2020, the day I left prison.

I have faced active addiction twice in my life, and I am grateful to still be here by the Grace of God.

Being on my recovery journey has truly been a blessing. I have had the opportunity to relearn how to take positive steps for my growth and strive to be a productive member of society. Recovery has gently encouraged me to love and reshape myself; the process has been gradual, but meaningful. I used to view the world from a single perspective, but now I make an effort to consider all four lenses before reaching conclusions:

Structural Lens: Focus on roles, policies, and procedures.

Human Resources Lens: Focus on people, needs, and relationships.

Political Lens: Focus on power, conflict, and competition.

Symbolic Lens: Focus on culture, symbols, and meaning.

Viewing life through these lenses helps me stay committed to my recovery journey and motivates me to support others as they begin or continue theirs. While life presented many challenges during my addiction, I recognize that recovery comes with its own challenges too. The difference now is that I am surrounded by support—from my family and co-workers, and through my connection that I am working on with Our Father, God.

If you are scared, nervous, or afraid to begin or stay on your recovery journey, you’re not alone. Many of us have intense stories, myself included. I once had a decent life, but addiction took everything: I became homeless, slept in abandoned houses, went days without eating, and wore the same clothes for days getting high. I ignored my mental health until it all caught up with me, and I spent 2.5 years in a women’s prison. I share this not for sympathy, but to remind you: you are not alone, and your story is valid. Life is too short to keep saying, “I will, I will.” It is time to turn things around. If I can do it, so can you, , just . is here to help you.
