Today is my last day in my 30’s⁠
I’m reflecting on the past decade today and tomorrow I’ll look forward to the next year and decade. I know many people choose the new year to do this practice. I like doing this around my birthday, my new year, if you will.⁠

A lot has happened in my 30’s⁠

I got married⁠
I lost 3 babies⁠
I started a family⁠
I earned my license as a professional counselor⁠
I got to know myself better than ever⁠
I lost a lot of relationships⁠
I deepened a few relationships⁠
I started a coaching business I’m passionate about⁠

There are things to grieve, that’s a part of life. However, when I step back and look at the big picture, damn it’s been good. And when reflecting on a decade, shouldn’t I be considering the big picture? ⁠

I’m passionate about helping women create their best lives through fitness, nutrition and mindset. I’m including my own life in that too. If you take away the mindset piece the rest means nothing to me. Evaluating my perspective, examining my thoughts, and practicing viewing life through a lens of gratitude are why the past decade has been good. ⁠

Although I’m saving the looking forward for tomorrow, I know one thing is for sure-less what I should be doing and more what lights a fire from within. Who’s with me? ⁠

This was the first day I ever worked out in just a sports bra at the gym.

It’s not because I’m finally comfortable with how my body looks. To be honest there have been times when I was leaner and more “toned” looking.

It’s because I finally feel comfortable in and with my body.

For so long I thought my goal was to look a certain way, but recently I’ve been realizing I want to FEEL a certain way

Confident
Healthy
Strong
Independent as I age

You may look at me and think
She shouldn’t be wearing that
She can wear that but I never could
She should put some clothes on

But what you think of me is really about you
AND
what you think of me is none of my business

My coaching business’ goal, my goal when I post on social media and my why is not “help women lose weight or help women get smaller”

It is change the way women think and feel about themselves, help them realize their power 💥❤️

In order to lose weight you need one thing ☝️⁠

A calorie deficit, that's it. ⁠

In order to sustain your weight loss you need:⁠
✅ A moderate calorie deficit so you aren't starving⁠
✅ To eat enough protein to conserve your lean mass⁠
✅ To include foods you enjoy ⁠

❌ 1200 calories is an excessive calorie deficit⁠
❌ Not paying attention to protein intake means you will lose muscle as you lose weight which will require your body to need even less calories to maintain your new weight⁠
❌ Cutting out foods you enjoy or entire food groups increases your chances of weight regain and perpetuates the cycle of yo-yo dieting and binge and restrict⁠

I wasn’t blessed with a b***y

Then I wasted a lot of time in my fitness journey doing ineffective things

It takes the right nutrition and the right training to grow muscle

😖Do you feel like your doing everything “right” but you aren’t seeing changes?

Before I understood nutrition periodization I was “always on a diet”
In reality I was always in a restrict and binge cycle

I would “eat good” Mon-Thursday and reward myself with food and alcohol on the weekends

I did it in the name of balance

Before I understood progressive overload I used the same 5 and 10 lb dumbbells for years

I ran 2-3 miles in the morning and then swung my 10 lb dumbbells around in the evening

I did it in the name of my love for fitness

I didn’t know any better, but now I do. I want to save you the time I wasted. I don’t want to see you spin your wheels working towards your goals.

You are more than what can be captured in a photo

I’ve been working really hard to accept that I will always have loose skin on my stomach. It did grow two beautiful, healthy babies, after all. Will I ever love it? Probably not, but I can shift my attention elsewhere.

Now when I look at this picture I see
🐚A momma loving a week of vacation with her family
🍨A woman who has learned how to balance her love of ice cream and her desire for a fit physique
💪An athlete who GETS to move her body and have fitness goals

And even those things just scratch the surface of who I am and what’s important to me. Some things just can’t be captured in a photo.

I could focus on the parts of my body that I don’t love but how would that be helpful?
It doesn’t improve my physical, emotional, or mental health.

What you focus on will grow and the best part is you get to choose 🌱
