Here's why you are stuck in analysis paralysis.
You are not taking any action.
Action cultivates clarity.
There is not right or wrong action, it is just what feels good to you.
So take a step in any direction and then check in with yourself.
I’ve been there. I got stuck there for years.
You are analyzing your desire for a career change, because it matters to you.
But you are just going to think about it forever and not do anything about it because you’ve created a thought trap.
So here are the main reasons why people get stuck in analysis paralysis and how to fix it.
Block #1: You are waiting for the answer.
If you are then you’ll most likely be waiting forever or until your death bed. The truth is that our brains are lazy and tend to use the most traveled neurons to use the least amount of energy, so you’ll keep thinking the same thoughts because they are the most used pathways in your brain.
Tip #1: Change up the pathway by taking action or inviting someone into your life to get new neuron pathways firing.
Block #2: You want societally acceptable reasons for considering a career change.
Whether you know it or not, you are worried about what your family, friends, and colleagues are going to think. You know that they will have a ton of questions for you, “Why?”, “How come?”, “What are you thinking?” All you know is that society’s recipe of success did not 100% work out for you and you are not sure how to articulate this.
Tip #2: If you are reading this, let’s be real, your drive for a career change is counter-culture, so find others (role models, mentors, coaches, networks) who model the counterculture life that you are also after.
Block #3: You do not know what direction to head in. How can you start if you don’t know where to go? Or maybe you want to explore multiple things? Guess what, this path does not need to be linear. Is that a relief or what?!
Tip #3: Get curious! Cue into what excites you or makes you feel alive, and do more of that!
You’d be surprised how implementing just those few tips will made a world of difference.
