I love baking, and I bake organic whole wheat seed bread regularly. After I’ve finished a bottle of lavender extract I bought at a local store, I decided to use my own essential oils for the baking. I used the honey tea made with wild pinon pine needles to replace the water part. Before mixing all of the ingredients together, I put several drops of organic wild lavender oil (Lavandula angustifolia) in the mix. The 1000 grams of bread dough was brightened by several drops of strong natural essence. The rolling scent transferred me to a morning I was waken up in a hotel in a strange city. It was so quiet, it was tranquil before the morning noise started the day… I must have waken up in my own thin sleep bag, I’d not keep myself clean if I stayed in a hotel :p

Composing incenses with wood powder, resins, botanical essences, and hydrosols. I would like to share my incense making process. I have developed an easier way to roll incense cones. Roll the dough into small balls first, then roll the ball into cone shape as you can see in the video. To me this probably is the most efficient way to roll incense cones without any equipment.

What a beautiful root structure! I grow this valerian from organic seeds. I split the plant to share with others. Hold this light and small plant, deep breathe. it’s a pleasant petrichor in my hand, an earthy vanilla candy. It’s metallic, a memory of an old cloth was just taken out of the closet, a breeze from a Chinese apathecary drawer…I air dried some excessive roots on a mini pizza baking tray. It is very interesting that the scent has changed some since It has only been in the air for two days. The vanilla-y sweet scent dominated the first day of harvesting. The plant also has some medicinal uses, may help sleep better, reduce anxiety, etc.. but at this point, I want to use it for perfumery. Tincture it or make it into incense. Have you any ideas?

Harvesting piñon pine resins from a dead tree. My piñon pine resin is 100% harvested from dead trees. Gray pine resin is back in stock. About 1/4 of what I harvested( 1.6lb) is from the ground under the trees. I also have one bag of Jeffrey pine resin left in my Etsy shop.

As summer is leaving, a classic fall smell is filling up my kitchen on a cool day. Swedish cinnamon roll without any sugary glaze or decoration is my go to bite for long weekends or road trips. I made 20 rolls for the coming long weekend. As you know me from my IG story, I love messing around with different flavors. I made a cinnamon mix with three different organic cinnamons: Cassia, Ceylon, and Saigon. I love cinnamon so much and have it on my foamed milk for my coffee everyday. Oh, the white spot in the center of the roll is lotus seed, LOL. I like Neil Young’s Cinnamon Girl too.

This is one of the few smart gardens I have seen by far in my town . Drought resistant California native plants. Very wise. 💧

Absolutes of juniper, sagebrush, two varieties of oolong teas. One of the oolong teas is Tieguanyin( 铁观音/Iron Buddha). Tieguanyin tea was originally the name of a tea tree. Because it is suitable for making oolong tea, its finished product is also called Tieguanyin.
