Behavior modification, another pillar of Weight management.
We all know, and most from personal experience, that losing weight is winning just part of the battle. Often, the bigger challenge is maintaining that weight loss!. And this is where most of "diets" fail miserably.
Yes, many of us can restrain ourselves from eating over a period of days, weeks, and even months, but sadly with the idea that it is only a "temporary inconvenience", followed by a return to a " happy unrestrained " lifestyle. The reality is that weight management and control is, like many ailments (high blood pressure and diabetes) is a CHRONIC PROBLEM, and is best accepted as such, if one wants a chance at success.
Behavior modification should occur DURING the weight loss phase and not AFTER. We should use the changes dictated by the "diet" to "learn" our new way of life, and understand our bodies better, including what our weaknesses are, and what challenges us most on a daily basis when it comes to controlling the quantity and quality of our food intake.
Obviously, one of the simplest decisions is the reduction of the size of our meals consistently, which is simpler than eliminating certain foods, which is most of the time unnecessary, except in cases of associated medical problems.
An example we are all familiar with,is when served in a restaurant, to immediately divide the plate in half, eat one half and take the rest home for another meal.
Behavior modification can be more complex, and may require specialist treatment in some cases, like binge eating for example, but for most, the first step is admitting that we have been doing things wrong, and deciding to change for the better.
