No one wants to talk about power of attorney, or guardianships, or what happens if someone ends up in the hospital and can’t speak for themselves, it can be a very uncomfortable topic.
Not talking about it doesn’t make the situation go away. It just makes it messier.
Power of attorney is who gets to step in and make decisions when you can’t. Guardianship? That’s what happens when there isn’t a plan in place. And advance directives? They’re not just about pulling plugs. They’re about making sure your wishes are clear and followed.
As uncomfortable as this stuff is to discuss, its not just for you, but for the people who love you. Scrambling in a crisis is no way to make big decisions.
