Today, the Springfield Regional Response Coalition hosted a highly successful coalition meeting, characterized by a significant turnout. Coalition and regional partners collaborated to discuss regional assets accessible throughout the region, highlighting the importance of identifying key contacts for these resources. Our gratitude is expressed to Adam’s County EMS/EMA for hosting and providing lunch. Regional partners were given the opportunity to view assets such as the SRRC Mass Fatality Trailer, Water Filtration System, Plum Cases, Adams County Alternative Care Site, Adams County Mass Casualty Truck, and Adams County Decon.

We were able to provide some VR Mass Casualty Training and using START Triage this past week for some Millikin School of Nursing students! They did any amazing job and were able to use the VR platform to do “hands-on” training to better understand the concept of using START triage! Looking forward to providing more of these trainings in the future!

September is National Emergency Preparedness Month. Do you and your family have a safety plan?

We care for our community members and want to ensure you and your family are ready and stay safe in an emergency. Follow these steps to start that conversation with your family about emergency preparedness:
• Set aside time when everyone is calm and relaxed.
• Hold the conversation over time, so decisions aren't rushed and everyone can feel more comfortable talking about these difficult topics.
• Talk about steps you may have taken to prepare and encourage others to ask questions about preparedness actions that might work for them.

Fill out this free emergency preparedness plan with your family: https://www.ready.gov/plan-form.

We had the pleasure today of having students from Millikin University-School of Nursing join in some Mass Casualty Training. We covered what a mass casualty incident is and how to utilize START and JumpSTART triage. After a small presentation we jumped into some Virtual Reality where the students could put their knowledge to the test! The students did an amazing job!

Thank you to Tara Morris who reached out and arranged this training! We look forward to any future trainings that might come up in the future!

This past week the Springfield Regional Response Coalition (SRRC) engaged Emergency Educators LLC to provide multiple Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) classes for our regional healthcare providers. HSHS St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL, and Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, IL, hosted a total of 3 classes with over 60 participants in total! Participants ranged from charge nurses, nursing house supervisors, nursing managers, executive/administrative staff, emergency physicians, and emergency preparedness coordinators.

The HICS course is structured for clinical and non-clinical personnel and focuses on the principals of the National Incident Management System (NIMS) mission areas: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery. Participants of the class received education though didactic learning and hands-on training with a table top exercise.

This past Saturday we were able to provide our very first Virtual Reality Training for Mass Causality Incidents (MCI). With this type of training we are able to offer our regional prehospital and hospital providers an interactive way to learn how to triage patients if an MCI would occur. We look forward to continue to provide this type training to our regional providers!

A HUGE thank you to Prairieland Ambulance Company to being the very first to complete this training!!

This week the Springfield Regional Response Coalition (SRRC) was able to provide a Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) class for our regional hospitals. HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Ill., and Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill., hosted over 50 hospital colleagues from around the region in west central Illinois. Colleague roles that participated in the HICS class included charge nurses, nursing house supervisors, nursing managers, and executive/administrative staff. The HICS course is structured for clinical and non-clinical personnel and focuses on the principals of the Incident Command System (ICS) mission areas: Prevention, Protection, Mitigation, Response, and Recovery. Participants of the class received education though didactic learning and hands-on training with a table top exercise. The SRRC would like to give a huge thank you to Emergency Educators!! Michael, from Emergency Educators, was extremely knowledgeable and was able to relate the information to colleagues with little experience in Emergency Management!

Stay safe!

· Reduce speed appropriately for the road conditions.
· Keep a safe distance of several car lengths from all other vehicles.
· Give snow and emergency operation vehicles the right-of-way and keep a safe distance at all times.
