Healing Art Studios

Healing Art Studios The Healing Arts Method provides healing through the arts for survivors of trauma and at-risk youth. (Formerly called Rescue Arts, 2006-2018)

Founded by Rebecca Shults, Healing Art Studios develops safe spaces for individuals to experience how the arts facilitate healing and growth in community. Healing Art Studios is an intentional community of creatives intent on healing and community growth. Our approach is person-centered (Natalie Rogers), collaborative, and utilizes all creative arts forms. We value the safe space, where a group of

individuals can feel free to express, process and to grow in healthy relationship with self and others. We welcome all artists, educators, therapists, and those in community development. Join with us to find ways that we can utilize creativity and expression for healing and growth! We have bases in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and the USA, but we connect online and in many places across the globe. Contact us to find out about our next collaborative workshop!

It’s important to be clear about what the Healing Arts Method is and is not. In the next three posts, we will clarify what exactly Healing Art Studios offers as a method and a community!

Healing Arts is not art therapy!

We equip leaders, including many therapists, to offer growth and healing through the arts in a trauma-informed way!

Stay tuned to better understand how we are trauma informed and what it looks like to be in the Healing Arts community!

Tammy Wollner is one of our dedicated facilitators at Healing Art Studios

Tammy is the founder of New Beginnings Safehouse and Healing Program in Southeast Asia — New Beginnings is a safe house for survivors of childhood s*xual exploitation and trafficking.

Tammy is able to use the Healing Arts Method with the individuals at New Beginnings as a way to process their hurt and trauma.

She says, “The Healing Arts Method is an effective part of our healing program for children recovering from s*x trafficking. This method supports trauma-informed self-expression, provides a structured and safe environment for processing personal narratives through multiple creative models, and builds important connections in group settings through shared experiences. These healing activities provide us with open doors for conversation and prayer that lead to greater healing in the children’s lives. It’s been a welcome and beneficial addition to our program.”

We truly appreciate Tammy!

Zachary Ray is one of our outstanding facilitators here at Healing Art Studios

Zac currently serves as the Public Relations Coordinator for Global Teen Challenge and helps lead On The Way Global Missions; the mobilization and sending department of Global Teen Challenge.

Zac has also spent a lot of time on the other side of the mobilization efforts. He served in India for over a decade and has ministered in more than 30 different nations!

When asked why he believes in the Healing Arts Method he said this, “I have seen the Healing Arts Method create space for individuals to process trauma, encounter God’s presence, and express what words alone often cannot communicate. Through creative expression such as music, storytelling, and visual art, people begin to rediscover identity, hope, and freedom. In cross-cultural ministry and recovery settings, the arts consistently open hearts, build trust, and help facilitate deep emotional and spiritual healing”

We are so glad that Zac is a part of our team!

The arts aren’t just expression—they’re a proven way to process emotions, reduce stress, and support healing. Susan Magsamen, author of Your Brain in Art, urges us to lean into this creative process to find a moment of stillness and transformation.

Today we are highlighting another one of our great facilitators, Tyler Shults! Tyler is the husband of our founder, Rebecca!

Tyler currently educates on music and facilities songwriting projects with Healing Art Studios. He creates online teachings and live Healing Art Events. He is currently in the process of starting a creative cohort to incorporate the Method into his local context!

When asked why Tyler so strongly believes in the Healing Arts Method and incorporating songwriting he said this, “The H.A. Method is powerful because it allows individuals to express tough things in both a safe and ambiguous context. I also believe in the method because it allows people to express or reveal as much or as little as they want to. By centering the process on their relationship with God, people begin to see that He is present with them—guiding, revealing, and bringing to light what He is placing on their hearts in each moment.

Songwriting in a group is powerful because it is an art form that lets the final product be something everyone has put together. It may be more difficult for everyone to paint, draw, or write a story simultaneously. Songwriting and sharing a song depend on everyone being there in their own part. The song changes if anything else changes. Everyone who writes and performs the song has the opportunity to express what is meaningful to them while maintaining dignity. This is what HAS is all about.”

DM if you’d like to join a creative cohort!

We are so excited to introduce Melissa, one of our amazing facilitators!

Melissa and her husband currently live and work in Georgia. She is currently in the process of completing her degree in Christian Counseling. In addition to her schooling, Melissa and her husband are the founders of Mariposa Company LLC. Mariposa Company allows her to share her creativity and love for the arts with others. She creates pieces with watercolors, acrylic, or gouache. Additionally, she creates beautiful earrings out of polymer clay.

Melissa says, “The teaching {Healing Arts Training} that centered on self-awareness helped me to “un-bury” the creative talents that kept getting pushed aside and helped me to process and express my story in a new way. It enabled me to see that my creativity had a God-given place in my story.” From these trainings she has lead groups within her church body and continues to find opportunities to use her creative gifting within the Church.

We are so grateful for Melissa and all the ways she is allowing the Lord to work through her creativity!
