This past week Rebecca Shults had the opportunity to lead a staff training and then a collaborative experience with trafficking survivors at Project Rescue/ Fiet in Spain. What an amazing time!
The team are incredibly gifted counselors/educators and passionate about doing their job well.
The ladies at the Safe House have been rescued out of s*x trafficking in Spain over the past year, and participate in a wholistic restorative program. Rebecca coordinated a time of reflection and processing their lived experiences in the context of Isaiah 61:1-4, and what it feels like to experience the complex trauma, a sort of “death/ashes” on multiple levels, and to experience— surprisingly— a joy, a beauty that seems to bloom from the ashes in unexpressed (unique to each person) ways. The ladies (ages 20+ and from 8 different home countries) worked together to paint, rip up, and paste paper leaves onto a painted canvas— an oak tree . It was inspiring to witness their commitment to grappling with their own healing process, and to support one another through it as well.
We will be conducting a similar collaborative Healing Arts experience with the public at our office in Springfield next week. Follow us if you’re interested in similar events in the future.
