I absolutely appreciate the collaboration and support the Missouri PQC has offered me since I stepped into this work.
Knowing the people behind the organization and the heart that goes with all their actions makes me amazingly proud to be a community partner.

This Black Maternal Health Week, we're highlighting the power of doulas in supporting Black mothers, in this blog authored by M-Brace Birthing 💜

From advocacy to emotional and physical support, doulas help ensure Black women feel heard, respected and empowered throughout their pregnancy journey — something research shows is critical to improving outcomes.

Doulas beholden to a hospital/system is NOT the move.
Independent doulas work because our loyalty is with our clients.
All hospitals see is what we do the day of labor, but there is so much more behind good doula care. A lot of education, relationship building, time, trust, and maybe even unpacking previous trauma.
The only change is insurance is paying and now, so they're "on board" but for many its just a power and money grab.

*This is giving a repeat of what they did to the Grand Midwives all over again!*

Providers feedback:

"Thank you so much, your presentation definitely had the most chat engagement and interactions."
"I had no idea doulas did so much."
"Wow this is an under utilized resource and could really be great in our NICU."
"How can I help my patients find a doula?"

All because Children's Hospital gave Doula Lab the opportunity to present on the topic, 'How Doulas Help Reduce Stress and Help with Better Birth Outcomes for NICU Families".

We never stop showing up for families, advocating, and educating!

Spring Cohort applications are open!!
This is not a 3 days course on squeezing hips. This is a college level certification course, where you leave not just as a Certified Full Spectrum Doula but also a Certified Perinatal Community Health Worker.
We're not easy instructors and we don't let stuff slide because Black Maternal Health demands that you must know 2x as much and work 2x as hard to help ensure the mothers of our community make it home to their babies. Business, conflict resolution, anatomy, complications, and more are all covered.
