If an intense loss has erupted in your life, one thing you'll hear often is "you're not alone." And that isn't really true.
No matter how many times they say "I love you," no matter how well they do love you, no one can "do" grief with you. No one can enter into your true mind and heart and be there with you. That's true even if they've had a loss similar to yours.
Finding others who have shared a similar pain shows you those people who understand just how alone you are.
No one can enter the deepest heart of grief. We here, even the ones who know this magnitude of pain, we are not there with you. That is yours alone.
Our hearts have held great, great sorrow. We can be there for each other. As our words knock on the doors of each other's hearts, we become way stations for each other.
Together, we recognize each other, and bow to the pain we see.
The truth is, also: you are not alone.

My virtual office has bland wall colors so I gotta make up for it with a bright shirt.

Trauma is stored in the body. This article is a great primer on what that means!
When all is well, our brain is the greatest supercomputer on earth. A complex network of about 100 billion neurons, it’s not only great at…

On working with shame. I wanted to copy/paste the entire piece, it is filled with gems.
"When I’m hiding from my shame and also viewing my life through the lens of that shame, I get fixated on WHAT NEEDS FIXING. But nothing needs fixing, actually. I need to come back to reality and live there instead. Living in reality means becoming a scientist of shame. It’s an investigation. I can look at my shame, consider it, lament it, celebrate it, treasure it — how it changes the atmospheric pressure, how it makes it possible for me to reach out, to other people, in the hopes of making some connection, how it opens my eyes to the beautiful little awkward minutes of this day. My shame is the fuel that keeps me writing. My shame is the fuel that makes me exercise. My shame gives me a lens for understanding my husband and my kids. My shame makes my work possible. My shame — when I invite it in and forgive it — builds my empathy for others."
When you live inside of your shame, everything you see is inadequate and embarrassing.

I am super excited about this!!! I am going to be interviewed Sunday morning on the topics of mental health, therapy, and my work with the trans population at 9:00a.m. during the 2nd Annual Live MTUG Telethon!!!
MTUG is the Metro Trans Umbrella Group, an organization that is on the frontlines of advocacy, space making, education, support, funding, housing, and caring for the transgender population of the Metro St. Louis area.
I'll be mentioning mental health stats, my work, and how to *actually be* a trans affirming therapist, counselor, or mental health care provider.

About Me
My passion for healing work is rooted in my own experiences of trauma, community, and advocacy. My path has included working in various mental health agencies, and I have two years of clinical experience providing counseling. My practice is q***r and trans affirming and I welcome anyone who identifies under the LGBTQIA+ umbrella. In general, I embrace folks whose lives have followed a unique path, whether that be due to choice, identity, experiences, or all of the above.
I am also a s*xuality educator through my role of Co-Leader at S*x Positive St. Louis and I care deeply about providing therapy to people who are s*x positive, such as those who are non-monogamous, kinky, or s*x workers, for example.
I am passionate about access to mental health resources, and therefore my practice includes a steep sliding scale. I am devoted to bridging the gap between healing and justice by making explicit the ways in which culture and identity are tied to our experiences of wellbeing as we move through the world.
