✨ A Life Rebuilt at The Althea Project ✨
Stories like this are why The Althea Project exists.
Jennifer came to sober living at a crossroads — facing the choice between continuing the cycle of relapse or taking a chance on something different. She chose recovery, structure, and community.
Because of sober living, Jennifer:
• Committed to her recovery through 90 meetings in 90 days
• Built lasting friendships and support with other women in recovery
• Improved her credit and advanced in her career, becoming an Assistant GM
• Repaired her relationship with her parents
• Saved enough money to move into a two-bedroom apartment for herself and her son
What started as a difficult decision became the turning point that helped her build a life she never thought was possible.
Jennifer shared her experience with us:
“When I first considered sober living I had just come back from a relapse and was allowed to stay at my parents house. They were not happy with my cycle of relapse and sobriety then relapse. We were at a crossroads of what to do next. I knew I wanted to stay sober but living with them was enabling me more than I cared to admit. So I was given an ultimatum — sober living or my van.
So I reached out to The Althea Project. I filled out the application and waited. I called every week to see if a bed had become available. In the meantime I went to meetings and even got a sponsor. Then one day I got a call from the director of The Althea Project, Caitlin. She said they had a bed available and my heart skipped a beat from both fear and excitement. I knew this was my chance.
She told me sober living changed her life, and I chose to believe that. So I moved in, met the other women, and started doing the work — 90 meetings in 90 days, working with my sponsor, working my job, and learning how to live a different life.
The women in the house became like sisters to me. We had good days and bad days, but we supported each other through all of it. The house rules gave me structure in a world where I had none.
After 30 years of addiction, in just six months my life completely changed. I improved my credit, worked hard and was promoted to assistant GM at my job, repaired my relationship with my parents, and saved enough money to get a two-bedroom apartment for me and my son.
I never thought I could figure out how to support myself — let alone another human being. But The Althea Project didn’t just help me get my life back… they helped me build a life I never had before. And I am forever grateful.”
