April is National Move More Month, and it’s the perfect reminder that movement does not have to be big or intense to make a difference. A short walk, a stretch break, a bike ride with friends, or simply choosing the stairs can all add up to a healthier, stronger you.

If winter slowed things down a bit, this month is the perfect excuse to get back into a rhythm. Fresh air, longer days, and a little extra movement can go a long way for both your body and your mood.

Find something you enjoy and get moving. Your body will thank you.

Here are five key areas to focus on for physical therapy in the spring: 🌸🌺🌷🌼

1. Avoid "Weekend Warrior" Syndrome: Do not jump back into intense activities or heavy, all-day gardening immediately. Ease into exercises, such as hiking or running, to prevent Achilles tendonitis or knee pain.

2.Warm Up Properly: Never skip a 5–10 minute warm-up of light cardio (like walking) to increase blood flow and lubricate joints before tackling yard work or sports.

3. Address Winter Deconditioning: Winter inactivity often results in decreased muscle strength, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility. Focus on strengthening the core, glutes, and shoulders to prepare for increased activity.

4. Use Proper Lifting Mechanics: Spring cleaning and gardening (lifting pots, mulch, or tools) can cause back pain. Utilize proper lifting techniques, such as bending at the knees and keeping loads close to your body.

5. Listen to Your Body: Distinguish between normal muscle soreness and pain, which is a warning sign. If you experience sharp, lingering, or increasing pain, stop the activity and consult a physical therapist.
