Depression can cause symptoms of an eating disorder to intensify, feelings of guilt or shame around food to increase, healthy eating patterns to become disrupted, and make achieving recovery more challenging. Low mood, hopelessness, and anxiety may also reinforce disordered behaviors, creating a cycle that can be difficult to break.

Recognizing this connection is a key step toward healing. Early intervention and maintaining healthy coping strategies, such as participating in therapy, joining support groups, and practicing self-care, can make a meaningful difference.
