Last month, we had the privilege of welcoming 8th-grade students from St. Margaret Mary Alacoque School to our Arnold Center for a special “Urban Plunge” experience—and the impact is still being felt. ❤️
The day began by honoring our foundation and mission. We shared the story of Sister John, who founded St. Elizabeth in 1981, and reminded everyone that our work is rooted in caring for God’s people—being a voice for the voiceless. Every day, our staff walks alongside Christ as they support adults with cognitive and developmental disabilities, as well as those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia.
But this day was about more than learning—it was about connection.
The students jumped right in alongside our participants, forming a circle for a fun and meaningful game of chair soccer. As the ball moved from person to person, everyone shared something about themselves—their hobbies, interests, and joys. In those moments, something powerful happened: barriers disappeared. The students quickly realized what we see every day—our participants are full of life, personality, and joy… just like them.
Weeks later, the impact became even more clear.
We received heartfelt letters from the students sharing how eye-opening the experience was. Many spoke about how their perspective changed, how much fun they had, and how meaningful it was to connect on a human level. Some even shared that this experience inspired them to consider a future in service to others. 🙏
We were also incredibly touched by their generosity. The students presented St. Elizabeth’s with a $150 donation as part of their mission project—a meaningful gesture that reflects both their compassion and commitment to serving others.
They also recognized something we’re incredibly proud of—our staff. Their compassion, dedication, and commitment to serving others did not go unnoticed.
This is what our mission is all about—bringing people together, building understanding, and living out faith through action.
We are so grateful to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque for spending the day with us and embracing the spirit of community, compassion, and service. 💙
