I’m not licensed as a midwife yet, but sharing for awareness 💕

You know what a giant pain in the butt it is when while you are in care with us (Licensed Midwives) and you get a UTI or mastitis or want birth control at your last postpartum visit and we have to refer you to your P*P? Yeah, we think it sucks too. Well, the wonderful people at MAWS and the WA DOH are working to expand our scope so we can write prescriptions for these issues. Please, please, please, drop them a short email and tell them about your experience and why LMs should be able to prescribe for these common perinatal needs.

Hanging out with some cutie brothers that I helped catch as a student midwife 👶. We were playing with race cars 🏎 while waiting for their new sister to be born. I love that families become like family with the midwifery model of care. Also grateful that their mom asked me to be her doula and a witness to the birth of their final babe. “Miranda’s here, time to have a baby!”💕 . . .

I know it can be difficult for some, myself included, we need to advocate for ourselves and ask questions!

Many of us were taught to trust doctors, so it’s a real challenge when they give misleading and coercive information.

The truth is, there is a lot of non-medical factors that influence how physicians or midwives talk about VBAC.

So how can you tell when they are giving you accurate information?

You have to arm yourself with the facts.

The challenge is... there is a lot to learn and it's easy to get overwhelmed.

The maternal mortality rate in the United States puts us LAST overall among industrialized nations, with about *2 deaths each day! We need a diversified and competent workforce to help reverse this. I hadn’t planned on watching the whole two hour hearing and then I found myself in the last few minutes of it at 3am 😬 .

Right Occiput Transverse (ROT) is when the occiput is towards the mother’s right and baby faces and kicks towards her left side. This position is called Right Occiput Lateral in the UK Australia and New Zealand.
