Many people who love me predicted as much - it has happened - I am in love with Oaxaca. The art, the color, the earthiness of the culture, the soul, the sweetness, and the art... Did I mention the art? It seems like any surface here - public or private - is fair game for art. As it should be.
I am so grateful to be travelling with my two daughters here. What luck that we all have a sense of adventure and also appreciation for beauty, novelty, tradition, innovation and layered flavors.
I love not only Oaxaca City but also San Jose Del Pacifico - land of magic mushrooms. The first photo was taken by my daughter Veronica when we were up in the forest at 9,000 feet and the clouds started to roll in. I was wearing all the clothes we had with us - three different shawls - to keep me warm as the chilly mists crept through the trees as the sun moved across the valley.
From where I sat in the forest, I could see purple, pink, yellow, red and white flowers, as well as moss, ferns, lichens, air plants, and looking up could see the usnea and old man's beard moving with the breeze. We heard the complex melodic call of brown sided solitaire and a chestnut sided shrike vireo, among so many other birds.
Now we are back in Oaxaca City and have two more days here, to enjoy, to love, to soak in the pleasure of this soulful place.
