638 followers! Time for me to reintroduce myself 🤎
Hi! I’m Courtney - the face behind Homemaker + an Acre 👩🏻🌾 Shane is my husband and we have 3 beautiful children. You won’t see their faces on here but you may see and hear them in the background when I make photo/video posts.
God truly has blessed me with the role of being a homemaker. I stay home and homeschool our kiddos while my husband does his paramedic thing in a helicopter 🚁 We live on a 1 acre homestead in Bradford County FL. I manage the day-to-day homestead chores mostly by myself, minus the building and heavy lifting.. thus the name - Homemaker + an Acre 🤪🤣🤍
Currently we have 2 registered nubian does and 2 doelings I hope to breed next year alongside them. One doe is pregnant and due in December but the other doe is currently not bred. They give us the creamiest goat milk 🐐 We also have 3 Kune Kune pigs - 2 females and a male as part of our on farm breeding program. Both girls are pregnant and due in December 🐽 Kune Kune pork is amazing! It is a red meat and tastes very similar to beef 🥩 We raise them for meat purposes. I have close to 20 chickens that free range our property and eat all the bugs they could ever hope to eat - while leaving sweet reminders in the form of chicken p**p on everything 🤣 a small price to pay for all the yummy eggs they give us.
I use our leaf lard from our Kune Kune pigs to
make high quality magnesium cream and moisturizing soaps here on our homestead. We use the trim fat to render down and cook with.
I love baking with Kamut flour from The Food Nanny - I’ve bought a 10 lb bag every month for over 2 years now. I used to get the 25 lb bags 😅 Sourdough is fun and I use the discard in everything but this season of life doesn’t allow for the traditional sourdough.. did you know its like a 3 day process?!?
In the last year I began making herbal remedies with my mother in law and have enjoyed diving in and learning all I can. I make Elderberry and Mullein syrup with raw local honey from Townsend Honey Farm LLC. I have learned so much and still have so many things to keep studying. Example: when my goats get a cough, I can give them mullein leaves - I think it is so amazing that God created so many herbs and plants to help us. Apparently Marshmallow root can also boost their milk production? So much to keep studying, both for humans and animals 🌿
I’d love to have a farm stand one day. I just don’t know that people would drive down our dirtroad. I’m thinking of adding in vlog style farm content - let me know in the comments if this is something you may be interested in. Duluth Trading Company overalls are my favorite - if I’m not in a pretty dress or pjs, they are all I wear! I keep a lot of my products stocked at Hometown Grounds Coffee Co. and Bronzed Tanning and Boutique - I should be restocking both locations this week!
