Emma’s Story

In December 2017, Emma was diagnosed with Stage 3 High Risk Neuroblastoma. She had a large abdominal tumor that was inoperable at diagnosis due to the tumor encasing several major blood vessels. She underwent 4 rounds of high dose chemotherapy but the tumor did responded well to treatment. Emma and her parents traveled to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York to see Dr Michael LaQuaglia, the leading Neuroblastoma surgeon in the world. Dr LaQualglia was able to remove 100% of Emma’s tumor. She then received a final round of chemotherapy followed by radiation. Emma was declared cancer free in July 2018.

On April 4, 2019 during routine follow up scans doctors discovered that Emma’s cancer had returned in her left hip and right femur. Emma is currently being treated for relapsed Neuroblastoma at Egleston’s Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She is hospitalized for 6 days every 21 days to receive chemotherapy and immunotherapy. Emma is currently responding well to treatment. Emma and her parents will travel back to New York in July to meet with Dr. Brian Kushner at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center to discuss further treatment options that will take approximately 1.5 to 2 years to complete.
