CGH is proud to have been part of Sunday’s surprise appearance by Pink Heals Sauk Valley at a benefit for Karlie Hey, a Newman Central Catholic High School graduate. Pink Heals brought together members of Rock Falls Fire, Rock Falls Police, and our own CGH EMS to show support for Karlie and her family during her cancer journey.

“The Pink Heals team reached out asking us to participate, and we were honored to be included,” said Jason Larson, CGH Director of Pre-Hospital.

CGH EMS has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to cancer awareness and support of those impacted in our community. Over the years, CGH EMS has been especially dedicated to breast cancer awareness and screening.

“We hold a fundraiser each year by incorporating pink into our logo, with our crews wearing the apparel during October,” said Larson. “The proceeds are donated to a person or organization who has been affected by the disease. This year, we are donating the money to a CGH employee who has just come back to work after battling and ultimately beating cancer.”

We are grateful to Pink Heals Sauk Valley for the invitation and for allowing us to be part of a cause close to our hearts, and to everyone who came together to uplift Karlie yesterday with love and encouragement.

Thank you Rock Falls Fire and Police, and CGH EMS for assisting with our visit to Karlie today!

Each year, November marks Men’s Health Awareness Month, culminating in International Men’s Day on November 19 — a global observance that celebrates the positive contributions of men and boys while shining a light on the unique health and social challenges they face.

International Men’s Day provides an opportunity to start important conversations about men’s health, including prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and su***de prevention. These issues affect men of all ages, and early detection, open communication and community support can make a life-saving difference.

Men are often less likely to seek help for health concerns or emotional struggles. This day serves as a reminder to encourage regular checkups, talk openly about mental well-being, and support one another without judgment. Scheduling yearly preventive screenings and exams is one of the best ways for men to stay ahead — it helps catch potential issues early and supports overall well-being. Regular screenings, including prostate cancer checks beginning around age 50 for those at average risk, and colon cancer screenings starting at age 45, play an important role in protecting long-term health.
