Mother Hen Child Care, LLC

Mother Hen Child Care, LLC Virginia state-licensed childcare by a mature provider with a bachelor's degree in Elementary/Early Childhood Education.

I am a state-licensed child care provider with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education/Early Childhood Development and a concentration in Music. As a state licensed provider, I hold current certification in CPR/First Aid, have passed the criminal background check and the child protective services check through the Office of Background Investigations, have been screened for TB, maintain a safe and clean environment (subject to unannounced inspections), maintain detailed emergency preparedness plans and conduct frequent safety drills, am in compliance with proper zoning regulations in my community, and serve nutritious meals and snacks. I am a participant in the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Food Program, but my nutritional standards far exceed theirs. You will never see such things as processed meats, white rice, white bread, sugary breakfast cereals or canned vegetables in this house! What you will see are fresh, whole, organic foods. Children here learn good eating habits from the start, and I love hearing “May I please have more kale (or beets or spinach or collard greens…), Miss Gail?”

Located in a non-smoking single family home with a large fenced backyard in a quiet neighborhood, my childcare provides a bright, cheery, loving, and nurturing environment perfect for fostering children’s sense of security and belonging, in which they can explore, experiment, create, and learn in a fun and active setting. Our daily schedule includes ample age-appropriate educational activities for children, lots of arts/crafts and opportunities for creativity, hundreds of books, plenty of exercise and opportunities for free play, and lots of music and dancing (I taught piano for years and am currently a west coast swing dance instructor). I have been a licensed childcare provider for more than 9 years, and have extensive childcare experience beyond that. Please contact me (Gail) if you are interested in more detailed information on my childcare or if you would like to schedule a visit.

I'm not sure all of these will grow as portrayed here, but this will make an excellent science project! And how cool would it be to turn a small corner of the activity room into a mini greenhouse with grow lights. Hmmm.....

Haven't done this yet, but we're going to next week! Fun for all ages.

We forgot to take photos of our finished Mother's Day cards, or were just too busy, but this is what we did, except that we used a rectangle as the base rather than a heart. We decorated the front cover with flat tulips cut from brightly colored construction paper. This project is adaptable to different ages and skill levels- For those who have learned to use scissors, it's good cutting practice, and for those who haven't, the shapes can be pre-cut.

Remember the grass seeds we planted April 22? This is what they look like today after two weeks. We used stickers for the eyes and either a sticker or paint for the nose and mouth. Tomorrow we're going to try to style their "hair" or maybe give them a trim. Soon we'll plant them in bare spots in the yard.

Update on our grass seed project. We've checked on the seeds every couple of days, watering when needed, and here they are on Day 10! On Monday we're going to put faces on the cups, so the grass will look like hair. It might soon need a trim!
