May is National Stroke Awareness Month!

At Speak Easy Speech Therapy, we are proud to support stroke survivors on their journey to recovery. We’ve had the privilege of working with so many strong and inspiring stroke survivors as they work to regain their voice, their confidence, and their independence.

A stroke can change so much in an instant. It can affect speech, language, understanding, cognition, voice, and swallowing. But with the right support and personalized therapy, meaningful progress is possible!

Every small step forward is a huge victory, and we’re honored to be part of that journey.

This month, we’re helping spread awareness about stroke and the importance of recognizing the signs. Remember the acronym FAST:
Face drooping
Arm weakness
Speech difficulty
Time to call 911

If you or someone you love is navigating life after a stroke, know that you’re not alone. We’re here to support and empower you and your loved one every step of the way!

As April comes to a close, we’re taking a moment to highlight Parkinson’s Awareness Month and the importance of ongoing support for those living with Parkinson’s disease.

At Speak Easy Speech Therapy, we’re proud to support individuals living with Parkinson’s disease, not just this month, but every day!

Parkinson’s affects more than movement. It can also impact voice, speech, swallowing, cognition, and facial expression. These changes can make it harder to communicate clearly, enjoy meals, and stay connected with others.

As speech-language pathologists, we offer evidence-based care like LSVT LOUD, personalized swallowing therapy, and cognitive-communication support to help clients:

✅ Speak more clearly and confidently
✅ Swallow safely and comfortably
✅ Strengthen breath support and vocal function
✅ Stay mentally sharp and engaged
✅ Maintain meaningful connections

Swallowing challenges like coughing during meals or feeling like food is “stuck” are common, but treatable. And cognitive changes like memory difficulties or trouble with problem-solving don’t have to go unaddressed.

If you or someone you love is experiencing changes in speech, cognition, voice, or swallowing, know that support is available and you're not alone.💙

Happy Earth Day!!

Before we opened our doors as a private practice, we traveled the country as speech therapists — going wherever we were needed. It was such an amazing adventure that connected us to so many people, and some pretty incredible places!

This Earth Day, we’re reflecting on all the places speech therapy has taken us, and feeling extra grateful for this beautiful planet we all share!

These days, we’re staying local and loving it — offering personalized care and making small changes in our day-to-day to be a little more earth-friendly. Whether that’s using less paper, encouraging outdoor speech activities, or just taking a breath of fresh air between sessions, every little bit counts.

Here’s to helping our clients grow while taking care of the world around us.

Step outside today if you can, take a deep breath, and enjoy this amazing planet. 🌍

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! As football season comes to an end, we wanted to share some information about concussions. It is estimated that around 3.8 million sports-related concussions occur every year in the United States. Concussions can have debilitating long-term effects on children and adults, and many people are unaware of, or do not have access to the resources to help them recover. We can work with you or your loved one on post-concussion deficits that may be affecting cognitive-communication skills, motor speech skills, swallowing, and/or social communication skills that may be impacting your safety, independence, or ability to return to school/work. Reach out to see if our services are right for you!
