Hard to believe that Patricia's 80th was almost 2 years ago, and thankful for this very good time at the infamous Tulip.

A year ago, my mom taught me even more than she did when I was a child. She taught me to be patient and accepting and loving and encouraging and to always be mindful that dignity is more important than accomplishment.

Despite the discomfort of squeezed "breastesses," we had a wonderful time having mammograms being pretty in pink together.

One of the nurses who worked on my dad and took care of us on the plane on which he died was named Trish.

Mom's sister/my godmother Patricia is nicknamed Trish. So imagine what it meant to Mom that "Trish" was there in the worst moment of her life.

"Airplane Trish" happened to be staying at the same resort and spied us trying to choke down a meal after we had to leave dead Dad at the Kauai hospital.

She motioned me over and very gently asked if Katie, Abby, and Mom would help her get dressed for her wedding the next day.

Mom couldn't do it, and my daughters and I couldn't not.

It was hopeful and mournful and joyous and lonely all at once.

A few months later, she sent pictures of her beautiful beachside wedding.

6 years ago, my mom watched my dad die mid-way thru a 6-hour flight from Phoenix to their life-long dream destination of Hawaii. She and Katherine and Abby and John had to watch any qualified passenger try to resuscitate him because once it starts it can't stop until someone with authority calls time of death - and that kind of authority is not available mid-air. So all these medical people (some doctors, some veterinarians, some nurses) legally had to work on him for over 3 hours. It was so physically exhausting they had to take turns. And all we could do was watch. The first hour we thought there may be some hope. His pacemaker kept beeping. No one knew if it was his body or the pacemaker. It just kept beeping. Beeping. Beeping. Like a heartbeat should. After we came to understand it was the pacemaker not his body, and that these 4 or 5 people had to keep trying to resuscitate him even though it was clear he was gone, way past gone, letting go saying goodbye on a plane with 136 strangers and nowhere to cry or scream nowhere to fall apart, the next 2 hours were lame attempts at comforting one another and somehow managing to be comfortable with the kind-hearted fellow passengers - strangers who held our hands and rubbed our backs in their effort to assuage our pain.

Margie lived here from 1953 (when she was 10) until she was married 10 years later in 1963. Except for a few months when she and her BFF Mikki lived in California. Her wedding album features many wonderful shots of the inside of this home. Those shots make it seem like a mansion. And that magically agrees with my (Laura Walker) memories of being in this home at least every week for the first 15 years of my life. If any of you have pics of this home or yard, please share!

Google reminded us today of a special day 14 years ago when Abby won an award a couple of days after she did a spectacular face plant at her dad's house.

I remember Grammy offering lots of hugs and chocolate that day.

Little Bunny Foo Foo,
Hopping through the forest,
Scooping up the field mice,
And bopping them on the head...
Down came the Good Fairy, and she said,
"Little Bunny Foo Foo,
I don't want to see you,
Scooping up the field mice
And bopping them on the head."

"I'll give you three chances,
And if you don't behave,
I'm gonna turn you into a goon!"

The next day...
