Why is PBS successful?

Comprehensive, individualized intervention.

Interventions developed based on a thorough assessment incorporate multiple components focused on improving behavior and quality of life. The emphasis in PBS is on teaching, rather than just controlling behavior.

This month, the PBS Ethics Committee is sharing tips to help you start the new year on the right foot with ethical best practices in mind.

Strong school culture starts with intentional behavior systems.

Mary White, PhD, PBS Corp. Business Development Manager and former principal, shares how intentional behavioral systems play a critical role in student success and teacher satisfaction.

As a former school leader, she highlights how PBIS-aligned supports help students engage academically and socially, strengthen classroom environments, and foster a sense of belonging. When clear behavioral systems are in place, teachers feel supported and are more likely to remain in their roles, contributing to a stable and positive school climate.

At PBS Corp., our school-based services are designed to meet the specific needs of each school and are supported by ongoing quality assurance measures and school feedback. These insights consistently reflect high levels of staff preparedness, responsiveness, and attentiveness to student needs, reinforcing the importance of well-implemented behavioral systems in creating sustainable, school-wide improvement.

You’re doing amazing, sweetie! 🫶

This week’s ethics tip from our PBS Ethics Committee is brought to you by Holly Downs, PBS Compliance Director & Ethics Committee member!

“Seeking feedback and accepting feedback appropriately allows RBTs to grow into proficient professionals while representing the field of ABA in a positive manner and in alignment with 2.03.”

Bess Perkins, PBS Colorado Regional Coordinator further discusses the art of feedback and celebrating wins of your RBTs:

“Over time, I’ve realized that unnecessary corrective feedback does more harm than good. It waters down your credibility for the moments when guidance is really needed. It puts stress on your rapport with RBTs who are trying their best. It slows down learning for the client because it creates hesitation instead of confidence. And honestly, it can take a session that should feel fun and turn it into something tense.”

As providers, let’s ensure that we’re providing meaningful feedback to grow our RBTs into proficient and confident professionals.

brb, gonna cry 🥹

But seriously, providing praise and positive reinforcement to your RBTs make all the difference in your RBTs confidence during their sessions.

Bess Perkins, PBS Regional Coordinator for Colorado said it best: ”The heart of good ABA isn’t about hunting for errors. It’s about recognizing when something is done well and leaning into that success. When a learner gets it right, they deserve to feel that win. And so does the RBT who supported them.”
