Body image struggles can look similar, but they’re not always the same condition.
Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and eating disorders often overlap in how they feel, including intense shame, obsessive thoughts, and distress about appearance. Clinically, though, they are different diagnoses. BDD is classified as an obsessive–compulsive related disorder, while eating disorders involve specific patterns around food, weight, and eating behaviors.
At Remedy Therapy Center for Eating Disorders, we specialize in treating eating disorders while carefully assessing body image concerns and co-occurring conditions like BDD. Understanding the difference helps ensure people receive the right level and type of care.
