Emily Joan Miller, affectionately known as “Miss Joan,” was the founder and longtime artistic director of the Palm Beach Ballet Center in Lake Park, Florida. For over fifty years, she dedicated her life to teaching and inspiring generations of dancers, many of whom went on to successful professional careers worldwide. Miss Joan was celebrated not only for her exceptional instruction but for her generosity, mentoring countless students and producing high-caliber performances that touched the lives of her community and the broader arts world.[dignitymemorial +1]
Miss Joan passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025. Her legacy continues through the thousands she mentored and the ongoing dance scholarship fund in her honor. A public celebration of her life will be held Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at Ballet Palm Beach. Donations may be made to the Joan Miller Scholarship Fund online or at the event in lieu of flowers.
