So, after my lovely reel from this morning’s class disappeared, I thought I’d give an insight into one of our conversations in class today instead!

Crying - all babies do it (and parents as well, while we’re at it!). It might not be the part of parenthood you relish most, but it sure is useful when those little ones have something they need to communicate to us!

It can be hard to deal with though, and one of the key messages we covered in class today was that everyone struggles with their baby crying at some point.

If you need some help, please remember it is out there. If your baby is safe, step away for a moment and catch a breath. Take advantage of help from others and hand your baby to a friend or relative for a while.

If you would benefit, please remember there are some fantastic organisations out there that support parents with excessive crying, such as the Cry-sis Helpline (https://www.cry-sis.org.uk).

You are not a bad parent for asking for help. You are the very best kind of parent for doing so!

Thank you also for the lovely parents in class today for sharing all the ways they cope when it’s all getting a bit much. You really are doing a great job!

So this morning, I set up with lots of time to spare before our class began, and made a lovely video to give you all an insight into the setup for today.

I edited it, added the right music, effects etc, and posted it. Or at least I thought I did!

It looks like it didn’t post at all, and my lovely reel has disappeared.

Gahhhh!!

I’ll try again next week….

(Does this mean I’m getting old when I can’t get tech to work….?)

I’ve been a little while posting this, as family life has been at the front of queue thanks to the Easter holidays!

However, I was very excited to host my first Family Baby Massage Class last month, inviting both parents to join in with massaging their babies.

It was a lovely morning, and so nice to meet the dads of some of the beautiful babies who took part in the January/February baby massage course.

Baby Massage is such a great way for non-carrying parents and carers to bond with a baby, and it was a privilege to teach this brilliant group of parents so that they too can massage their babies with confidence at home. It was lovely to receive this review from one of the dads afterwards too!

Family Baby Massage Classes will now be offered as an optional additional session at the end of each 5-week baby massage course, as well as being offered as a one-off taster/introduction to baby massage. More information to follow in the future…

If you don’t want to wait until then, or you prefer the idea of a family baby massage session in your home, I also teach families privately. This can be particularly beneficial in families with older siblings who may too need a bit of help to bond with your little one.

Please DM or email TinyTouchTherapySuffolk@gmail.com for more information!

I just wanted to do a big shout out to another mum-run business which I recommend to every new mum I come across in the area…

I joined Mumfit when my youngest was 9 weeks old and I’m still going over two years later!

It’s run by Jo, who is the loveliest person ever, and it’s a friendly, safe space to come along and exercise after having a baby or in the run up to it.

Even better, you can bring your little one with you! Jo has mats and toys for under 5s, thoughtfully set up next to your exercise mat so you can get some movement in without having to worry about childcare.

The routines are always great and give you options to challenge yourself or back off if needed, and the tracks are always bangers too!

For me, joining Mumfit in the early days gave me a chance to get out of the house and focus on me again. It doesn’t matter if you need to stop to feed, if your baby cries, if you need to chase after your toddler because they’ve run off with a resistance band! It’s a lovely atmosphere and Jo does a great job every week.

I don’t have much time in the week for other exercise, but going regularly over the last few years has really helped bring my core back, strengthen my back and keep my stamina up.

There are weekly sessions in Long Melford, Rougham and Boxford - check out Jo’s page to find out more!

There are so many things I wish I’d known as a new parent! But two really important things were:

šŸƒ Self-care is essential. At a time when my body was no longer my own, my routine was now dictated by a newborn, and my whole life was turned upside down, it felt wrong to think about me and my needs.

It is not wrong to think about yourself and to take care of yourself. It’s essential. If your needs are constantly at the bottom of the pile, it’s not going to be long before you feel burned out or worse. Taking care of others is hard, but making time to care for your own needs can make it easier - I promise.

šŸƒ Self-care doesn’t have to be all about long baths, massages, or spa days. It really can be as simple as taking a shower, cleaning and moisturising your face before bed, making sure you eat a banana alongside the Freddos (if you’re anything like I was 🤣), or stepping outside the back door and taking a minute to feel the sun on your face, hear the birds sing, and breathe in the fresh air.

These tiny steps don’t take much effort, but they can make a big difference. You don’t even need to leave the house if it’s a day when that just isn’t proving possible!

And ask for help if you need it. Whether from a friend, family member, midwife, health visitor or doctor. They are there to support, advise, and help, and any of the above worth their salt will not judge you for doing so!

Keep going, new mums and dads. You’re doing a brilliant job.

This week I did something I could barely envisage this time last year.

I write this as I wait for a flight to take me home, after 4 days away with my brother and nephew for a mini ski break together.

On my own. Without my children. Just me!

It’s the longest I’ve been away from my youngest, and four years since I’ve been away from my eldest for this long.

Leaving felt stressful, nerve-wracking, and very strange - especially leaving the house with a small bag with only my things in it, and not everything that comes along with us on family trips!

However, it’s been so good for me to have a little break from normality, spend time with my brother, and do one of my favourite hobbies which has definitely been trickier to fit in since becoming a mum!

And (as far as I know…), the world hasn’t fallen apart without me at home! I tell myself absolute rubbish sometimes about how I need to do everything, and be there all the time to keep everything going - but it’s also important to remind myself that I need me-time too.

After just four days, I feel refreshed and reminded of another part of me that isn’t just ā€˜Mummy’. My children have had time with their dad without me getting involved and changing the dynamic, and I think this is really good for them too.

Of course, I’ve been able to do this because I have a fantastic, supportive partner who’s kept things going at home while I’ve been away (don’t worry, he gets to go away by himself too!).

I spend a lot of time reminding the parents I work with that they were people before having children and it’s important to keep in touch with that side of themselves. Hopefully this proves I try to practice what I preach, even if it takes tons of organisation and can feel scary! It’s totally worth it though.

And now I can look forward to seeing my beautiful children’s faces in the morning - the best Mother’s Day present ever!

I loved hearing this from a wonderful class attendee as she walked through the door…it made me beam 😊

Turning a space in a village hall into a calm, quiet haven, with baby-friendly scents, relaxing music and mood lighting, all helps me create a welcoming atmosphere for both parents and babies - and sets the mood for a a precious hour of chilled-out baby massage.

Come and see for yourself on my next course (starting 13 April), or why not arrange a one-off class for you and a group of friends (like this lovely mum did)?
