Heart Attack vs. Cardiac Arrest
The heart is a pump that operates on electricity that it generates on it's own. It requires blood and oxygen to remain "charged" and pump effectively.
Heart Attack: when a blockage occurs in an artery that supplies blood to the heart muscle. Symptoms can include pain, pressure, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting. It disrupts or halts the hearts ability to generate electricity and effectively supply the body.
Cardiac Arrest: When the heart stops moving blood through the body and organs because the heart muscle has completely shut down producing no electricity or in the process of shutting down. This is called Ventricular Fibrillation. This is essentially the process the heart goes through when the electricity is depolarizing or leaving the heart. CPR is required immediately to give the victim a chance of survival.
