’Twas the Night Before the Spring Livestock Show (Cherokee County Edition)
’Twas the night before show day, and all through the ring,
No livestock were here, not one thing .
The pens are all empty but soon will be full,
The excitement is building, not to be dull.
The exhibitors are resting all snug in their beds,
While visions of banners dance in their heads.
And parents with coffee, and ag teachers with lists,
Prepare for the chaos and are there to assist.
In the morning the pens and barn will be filled with sound,
Everyone helping, preparing, and running around.
They’ll show up to this barn ready to compete,
Boots on their feet, in hopes they can’t be beat.
The smell of the shavings, the hum of the fans,
Gives joy to these hardworking hands.
Oh to my eyes will appear, blue, gold, green and white,
FFA and 4-H showing side by side, what a sight!
With blowers and brushes, goat stands, and pig whips,
Long hours in the barn, good times and friendships.
These kids are making memories and learning everyday,
As they are called to the ring to show in their own way.
“Now goats! Now sheep! Now pigs, it’s your turn!
On steers! On rabbits! We are here to win and earn!
To the wash racks we go! Then it’s time to show!
Let’s get them set up and ready to go!”
