’Twas the Night Before the Spring Livestock Show (Cherokee County Edition)
’Twas the night before show day, and all through the ring,
No livestock were here, not one thing .
The pens are all empty but soon will be full,
The excitement is building, not to be dull.

The exhibitors are resting all snug in their beds,
While visions of banners dance in their heads.
And parents with coffee, and ag teachers with lists,
Prepare for the chaos and are there to assist.

In the morning the pens and barn will be filled with sound,
Everyone helping, preparing, and running around.
They’ll show up to this barn ready to compete,
Boots on their feet, in hopes they can’t be beat.

The smell of the shavings, the hum of the fans,
Gives joy to these hardworking hands.
Oh to my eyes will appear, blue, gold, green and white,
FFA and 4-H showing side by side, what a sight!

With blowers and brushes, goat stands, and pig whips,
Long hours in the barn, good times and friendships.
These kids are making memories and learning everyday,
As they are called to the ring to show in their own way.

“Now goats! Now sheep! Now pigs, it’s your turn!
On steers! On rabbits! We are here to win and earn!
To the wash racks we go! Then it’s time to show!
Let’s get them set up and ready to go!”

Hey everyone!
I’ve been working on a way to help families connect with nature and learning in a more flexible, low-pressure way, especially during busy seasons. That idea has turned into The Outdoor Classroom Series, and January is our soft kickoff.

Here’s how families can join in this month 👇

Step 1: Complete the Family Check-In Survey
This short survey helps us learn what your family is interested in, what works best for your schedule, and how we can plan Outdoor Classroom activities that work for everyone.
📝 Survey link: https://forms.office.com/r/TRqW1d9trA
For planning purposes only — completing the survey does not commit your family to participate.

Step 2: Nature Navigators (Optional)
We’ll be using the Nature Navigators curriculum for Outdoor Classroom activities. Enrollment in ZSuite is optional, but members who complete the requirements by the due date will earn a Nature Navigator sticker.
🔗 ZSuite link: 4h.zsuite.org

Step 3: Nature Valentine Cards
Create a nature-themed Valentine card at home during the winter weather. Cards can feature animals, plants, winter scenes, or outdoor places you enjoy.
Need inspiration? Check out this pop-up card video:

Cards can be dropped off at the Extension Office by Feb 5th so I can deliver on Friday.

Step 4: Nature Photo Share (Instead of a Group Hike)
Due to continued winter weather and icy conditions, our group hike, Jan 31st, has been cancelled. Instead, I want you to share a nature photo in the comments of this post.

This could be:
• A winter scene
• Something you noticed outside
• A plant, animal, or natural detail
• A photo from your yard, porch, or window

No captions required — just share what you see!

🔴𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫: All valentines due 𝐅𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝟔!

Get crafty with a handmade valentine to spread a little joy to our veterans! 🩷💌
