Next up in our “Know Your Shots” series is the Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccine (VZV)!

💉Chicken pox can spread by respiratory droplets, contact with broken blisters, or by inhaling particles of these broken blisters
💉Symptoms include rash, fever, fatigued and headache
💉Serious complications include pneumonia, encephalitis, ataxia, sepsis, and internal bleeding
💉Chicken pox is VERY contagious
💉The vaccine was first introduced in 1995, and since then cases have decreased by 97%
💉At NFP, we give the vaccine at 12 months, and 4 years.

The next vaccine in our “Know Your Shots!” series is the MMR vaccine.
💉the MMR vaccine protects against Measles, Mumps, and Rubella.
💉Measles is a virus that can cause fever, runny nose, cough, rash, diarrhea. It can have fatal complications including swelling of the brain, seizures, and hemorrhages.
💉Mumps is a virus that causes swelling of the salivary glands and the testicles and infection of the ovaries (which can both lead to infertility).
💉Rubella is a virus that causes a rash and lymph node swelling. Rubella is most dangerous to pregnant women, as the virus can cause significant complications to the unborn child.
💉At our clinic we give the MMR vaccine at age 12 months. It is approved for those greater than 6 months that are traveling internationally or in the case of local outbreaks of disease, such as the recent cases in Texas and New Mexico.
💉 the MMR vaccine DOES NOT cause autism, as has been well established in numerous studies since the fraudulent study by Andrew Wakefield in 1998.

Do you have a newborn that was born on or after April 1, 2025? If so, your baby is eligible for Beyfortus, a therapeutic injection that provides antibodies against RSV!

Why is this so important?
-2 out of every 3 babies will be infected with RSV by age 1
-Babies less than 1 are 16 times more likely to be hospitalized with serious RSV lung infection than with the common flu
-On average, babies hospitalized with RSV stay for 3-4 days in the hospital

Beyfortus reduces the risk of infection requiring hospitalization by 80%!

If you would like to join hundreds of our other families and protect your infant from RSV, call our office today to schedule an appointment at our Beyfortus clinic on October 1. Reserve your spot today!

As always, if you have questions about Beyfortus or any of our vaccines, ask your provider.
