The Journey of Braysen “God’s Gift” Morgan

The Journey of Braysen “God’s Gift” Morgan Braysen is a courageous little boy who was diagnosed with a 100% fatal disease in utero.

On September 29th, 2020, Braysen was 18 weeks in utero and diagnosed with a 100 percent fatal condition called Bilateral Renal Agenesis (no kidneys present). Ty and I were only given two options: abortion or carry to term and have a stillborn birth. We did not accept either option and started diligently researching other courses of action. During the research, we found The Renal Anhydramnios Fetal Therapy (RAFT) Trial, a new study for babies diagnosed with Braysen’s condition and similar diagnoses. The RAFT Trial offers eligible pregnant women with a diagnosis of Early Pregnancy Renal Anhydramnios (EPRA) an experimental therapy or repeated or serial “amnioinfusions” of fluid into the womb. After undergoing 25 serial amnioinfusions (fluid injections into the womb), Braysen was born on January 21st, 2021. Even though Bilateral Renal Agenesis is considered 100% fatal, Braysen has defied the odds and is alive and thriving! During his 225 days in the NICU, he underwent 14 surgeries, a stroke, and had many other medical procedures, but he continues to persevere through them all. Although he has overcame these obstacles, he still has quite a journey ahead of him (kidney transplant). He is a living testimony/medical miracle, and we would love to share his journey as he progresses in life!

✨ One year ago today, our lives changed forever — we received the call that a kidney was available for Braysen. ✨

I’ll never forget where I was or how it felt to hear those words. After years of praying, hoping, and holding on through some of the hardest moments imaginable, God answered. That call meant life — a chance for our sweet boy who had never known what it felt like to have a kidney.

This past year has been filled with growth, healing, and pure amazement. Braysen has blossomed into the little boy we always knew he could be — full of energy, curiosity, laughter, and strength. To witness what a kidney has done for him, after all he’s been through, is nothing short of a miracle.

We give all the glory to God for carrying us through and guiding every step of this journey.
“I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works.” – Psalm 139:14
Every time we look at Braysen, we are reminded of how marvelous God’s works truly are.

To the donor and their family — we will never have the words to express our gratitude. In your most painful moment, you gave our child the gift of life. We carry your loved one’s legacy with us every single day, and we promise never to take this gift for granted. Your “yes” gave us hope, and a future for Braysen.

One year since the call. One year post-transplant. One year of answered prayers.
Thank you, God. Thank you, donor. Thank you, everyone who has walked this journey with us. 💚

Dear Nurses,

We want to give our deepest thanks to the amazing nurses who have cared for our son, Braysen.

Your compassion, strength, and dedication have meant the world to our family during a time that was anything but easy. You didn’t just treat a patient—you comforted a scared little boy, cheered him on, made him smile when it was hard, and helped him feel safe. You supported us, too, in ways you may not even realize.

Thank you for being the calm in the chaos, the steady hands, and the warm hearts we leaned on. We'll never forget what you've done for our little boy-and for us❣️

Happy Nurses Week—you are true heroes.

Braysen was discharged last night! It was an electrolyte imbalance with his potassium. I believe his anaphylactic reaction to eggs yesterday morning, saved him from being in a bad spot with his really low potassium (low heart rate). All glory to God for taking care of my boy.🙌🏼

As you can tell in the photo, he is doing and feeling incredibly well this morning!! Thank you everyone for all of the prayers—once again, have proven to be incredibly powerful❣️

Braysen gave us a little scare this morning, when he started showing signs of a severe allergic reaction to his breakfast. We rushed him to our local hospital to find out he was indeed having an anaphylactic reaction. They gave him some medicine that has helped him with those symptoms.

However, Braysen is now having low heart rate. They believe his electrolytes are out of wack due to a a couple of stomach bugs that Braysen has been battling this past week. They have drawn up some labs, but they haven’t resulted just yet.

With him being a complex case, the local hospital reached out to his transplant team at Children’s of Alabama and let them know what is going on. COA wanted him transferred there so they could evaluate him, due to so many things going on right now.

Please pray that we can get to the bottom of all of this. So my boy can go home!

Well, Mr. Braysen had his 6th month biopsy checkup this past weekend at Stanford!

We thought the procedure was going to be postponed due to Braysen developing a small respiratory infection on the trip to California. However, the anesthesiologist felt comfortable proceeding, so we did! And everything went smoothly!

The results of the biopsy have the doctors completely puzzled. 🙄

Braysen shows no signs of rejection on the kidney—THANK YOU JESUS 🙌🏼.

However, there was some inflammation on the kidney that could be from his recent UTI exposure… the part that is puzzling is that they do not understand how he could get a UTI if he doesn’t have a bladder. So the nephrologist needs to consult with the urologist to figure out why this is happening and how we fix this moving forward!

Of course, Braysen likes to keep the doctors on their toes… 😅

Just when we thought we have met with every specialty doctor, Braysen surprises us with a new one!!!

Braysen gained a new accessory this afternoon due to him falling. The X-ray showed a fracture to his elbow, which means he will be in a cast for the next 6 weeks. He is overall handling it well and loves his new piece of equipment.

(Side note: yellow was NOT our choice of color, but it’s what little man wanted—so he got it!🤷🏼‍♀️😂)

✨Dunking his way into rejection free status!✨

There are two types of rejections, which are Cellular Rejection and Donor Specific Antibodies (DSA) Rejection and unfortunately, Braysen was classified for both after his transplant.

The biopsy that Braysen had on Wednesday was to test for cellular rejection. Usually it takes about a week to get the final results. However, yesterday we received the preliminary results!!

They told us that he still had slight inflammation on the kidney tissue cells but it had significantly improved from the biopsy that was done in July. Which means Braysen is officially in remission from his cellular rejection!💚

As far as the DSA rejection goes, it was too soon to test for that, so we will be retesting that in 11/2024. So pray that those results come back with good news as well.

As always, thank you all for the continued support and prayers for our BIG boy! We are amazed daily by him and just incredibly grateful/thankful to be his parents to witness his incredible journey.

Thank you Jesus for being our rock in the hard times and thank you God for answering all the prayers!❣️

Officially 10 Weeks Post Transplant: 💚

And look who had their FIRST day of PRESCHOOL at RISE.☀️
He had a fantastic day and came home completely exhausted. We are so thankful he was accepted into this amazing school❣️🙌🏼

My boys came home 08/20 and things have been rocking and rolling since their arrival. Braysen has established care with a new team at Children’s of Alabama! However, Stanford will remain his primary team moving forward.

So, Braysen will be traveling back and forth to Stanford throughout the next two years for follow up biopsies and rejection testing. He has a scheduled biopsy on 09/18 to check the status of his kidney.

Since Mr. Braysen has gotten home, he has progressed so much! He went from a cruising along the furniture, to now he is independently walking (video for reference)! He is also talking more and so much clearer since having his transplant.💚

Thank you Jesus for my healthy little boy❣️
