Maybe you're hearing this for the first time, and if not, then just consider it a friendly reminder
We are not our "medical conditions", those are separate entities from us…
We are not our depression…
We are not our pain…
We are not our cancer…
Those things are temporary and transient entities.
I remember when I used to say "I am depressed"...
Or "I have cancer" which is basically the same as saying "I am cancer".
Any time we use the terminology "I am ______ [fill in the blank with some mental or physical condition]"...
We are basically setting ourselves up as a victim…
And this diminishes the opportunity to explore and experience a breakthrough to the other side of said mental or physical condition…
Every sign, symptom, and condition that we experience is nothing more than our bodies telling us that something is off…
That there is some habit, behavior, or environment in our lives that has to shift…
And therein lies the opportunity to explore.
So what is it exactly that I do now instead?
Instead of saying "I am _____[physical or mental condition]"...
I simply express gratitude and thank my body (or mind) for letting me know that something needs shifting....
And I get to work on figuring out what that is…
And what I can do to get back to a state of balance and ease.
I am not saying it's easy to transition to this philosophy because it is not easy…
In fact, it took me years to get to this point…
It is a practice…
And all practices get mastered with repetition.
