Hands on Vocational Exploration

Here is Caleb hard at work at A Ability Medical Equipment. He is shown with his supervisor Elaine and his colleagues Elmer and Cornell. All indicate Caleb is a hard worker and knows his hand tools thanks to his Dad's instruction. Caleb has been working on disassembling and assembling wheelchairs and other medical equipment. Also, sorting parts and providing all around support for the shop. Many thanks to Alison, Bill and the entire team for having Caleb! Also a round of applause for the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation for making this all possible. Keep learning Caleb!

This month 43 years ago, Judith Heumann led the 504 Sit-In, a 28-day long protest with over 100 activists with varying disabilities at a federal building in San Francisco. They were demanding passage of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the precursor to the Americans with Disabilities Act, and refused to leave the building until it was signed. The protest worked. For this and her lifelong advocacy for disability rights, she was recognized her as one of TIME Magazine's 100 Women of the Year.

Please 'share' and 'like' to show respect for the "quarantine" that helped shape disability rights as we know them today!
