Practice mindfulness 🧠

Mindfulness describes practices that anchor you to the present moment. It can help combat the anxiety-inducing effects of negative thinking. Activate your senses and experience the moments that are happening around you all the time ❄️

Smell something good 👃

When you're on your "last nerve" try smelling a calming essential oil. Using scents to enhance your mood is called aromatherapy. Studies show that aromatherapy can decrease stress and improve your sleep. An essential oil diffuser can be used where it is not safe to burn a candle ♾ rlxtn

Go in for the hug 👐

Cuddling, kissing, and hugging can all help relieve stress. Positive consensual physical contact can help release oxytocin and lower cortisol. This can lower blood pressure and heart rate, both of which are physical symptoms of stress. So hug it out over the holidays to reduce stress and anxiety ♾ rlxtn

It’s hard to feel anxious when you’re laughing 😂

Laughter is not only the best medicine, it's relatively free. A good giggle can lower your stress response and relieve tension by relaxing your muscles.
Try watching a funny TV show or hanging out with friends who make you laugh. Something or someone who can really make you LOL 🤣

Get your body moving to reduce stress -

Exercise is probably the single best thing you can do to relieve stress.
It might sound contradictory, but putting physical “stress” on your body through exercise can lower mental stress.
The benefits are strongest when you exercise on a regular schedule. Do what you can at home if going to a gym is not an option. Simple activities, like walking or jogging, that involve large muscle groups can have a larger stress relieving effect than others. Try and start with an activity you might really enjoy doing🤺

Involve the senses to relieve stress -

One of the most effective and easy ways to relieve stress is to amplify one or more of the body’s senses to drown out the noise. It might require some experimentation to identify the sensory experiences that work best. Take note how quickly stress levels drop when employing different techniques. Try a variety of things and be as detailed as possible, for example, listen to different genres and artists until deciding on a specific song that uplifts or relaxes ♾ celebrate small wins

Stress Relief Techniques

One of the most effective and easy ways to relieve stress is to amplify one or more of the body’s senses to drown out the noise. Practicing stress relief techniques to engage sight, sound, taste, smell, touch, and/or movement can immediately reduce stress response. Knowing how to quickly alleviate stress reduces overall anxiety and builds confidence.

Identify stress response

Internally, the body's “fight-or-flight” stress response is mostly the same for everyone. Blood pressure rises, the heart pumps faster, and muscles fibers constrict. Externally, however, people respond to stress in many different ways.

Overexcited stress response: People tend to become angry, agitated, overly emotional, or keyed up under stress. Would respond best to stress relief activities that are calming.

Under-excited stress response: People tend to become depressed, withdrawn, or spaced out under stress. Would respond best to stress relief activities that are stimulating and energizing.

Counteract a specific stress responses with the appropriate sensory technique.
