However, when starting any diet and fitness program please consult a health care provider. In 1989 I went on a diet and exercise program and lost nearly 100 pounds. But due to inexperience in fitness, once I reached my goal I stopped exercising and eating correctly. Over the next 2 decades my weight raged out of control. Because of my weight and strong family history of diabetes my risk of developing diabetes was very high. In 2003 I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, with a low dose of medication, some modified diet, and exercise helped me keep it under control. However, due to unforeseen circumstances and a American sedimentary life style, my weight, diabetes, blood pressure, and cholesterol exploded to extremely unhealthy levels. As a result I was taking 6 different medications. Which did very little to correct the medical problem. Most diabetic medications side effects cause weight gain. According to my doctor if I could not get my blood sugar levels under control he was going to have to put me on insulin. His suggestion was to lose weight, even 10 percent weight lose would help. In July 2008 I began walking and with some slight diet modifications I was able to lose over 40 pounds by September 2009. As a result some of my diabetic medications were reduced. Doctor told me I could do better, join a fitness center, “I don't have time to join a fitness center was my response (EXCUSE). He responded “MAKE THE TIME”. What happened next is what my family, friends, co-workers,doctor and personal trainer have called “A REMARKABLE STORY”. When I joined a fitness center in late September 2009, I weighed 290 pounds a lot for a 5foot 10 inch man. I could barely walk without getting winded, wore a 3x shirt, 56 pants. Was taking 3 different medications for my diabetes, 2 for blood pressure, and 1 for cholesterol. As of November 2010 I have lost an additional 70 pounds, I FEEL FANTASTIC, have gotten lots of compliments on how much better I look, how proud I should be on my accomplishment. I am also proud to report that I can now wear a medium shirt, 34 pants. But the biggest and best part is that my doctor has taken me off all my medications. I was able to accomplish this with the help of diet, fitness center, and a fantastic friend and personal trainer. It I must say was not easy and requires lots of hard work but it has been worth every penny and time I have spent on it. Juan is a compassionate, caring, friendly, and very motivating personal trainer. He is very concerned that I reach my desired goals. Because of his knowledge I am very comfortable in taking his advice and criticism when needed. For this I am forever grateful. Juan became my trainer in April 2010 this is when most of my results came about. I have come a long way and still have a long way to go before I would call myself fit. But with the help of a fitness center and or a fantastic personal trainer I will finally reach my ultimate goal. My life is a lot more healthier and happier now. They saved my Life. It is my hope that my story will help inspire others in that they too can achieve a healthier lifestyle. I know all the excuses and have used them. Which is why the the title of this blog is “STOP THE EXCUSES, FITNESS 4 ALL”. I did it and you can too.
