Interesting Ear fact!

Your ears never stop hearing even while you’re asleep. You can never “turn off” your ears.

However, even though you are hearing while you are asleep, the brain does not process sounds in the same way as it does when you are awake.

Thus, your ears will always hear and process sound regardless of your state, whether you’re conscious or unconscious, your ears never get a day off!

It is well known that there are many side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, but did you know that cancer survivors have an increased risk of hearing loss and tinnitus?

Research has revealed that certain chemotherapy medications and radiation therapy can cause ototoxicity.

What Is Ototoxicity?

Ototoxicity refers to drug or chemical damage to the auditory system that occurs after exposure to medications or chemicals that affect the inner ear. Ototoxicity can cause permanent sensorineural hearing loss and persistent tinnitus. Studies have shown that 50% of cancer survivors treated with platinum-containing chemotherapies were found to have significant hearing loss and tinnitus after treatment.

Ototoxicity Statistics:

· Ototoxic medications can result in hearing loss, tinnitus, hyperacusis, dizziness, or vertigo

· Ototoxicity can occur in all age groups, affecting between 23%-50% of adults and up to 60% of children taking ototoxic medications

· Around 10% of people taking aminoglycoside antibiotics experience ototoxicity

🦞🎉 Last Friday's company Crawfish Boil was a night to remember! A massive thank you to all our colleagues who joined us and contributed to this fantastic event. The sense of camaraderie was truly inspiring as everyone came together to make the evening a smashing success. 🤝

A special shoutout goes to our dedicated Events Committee for planning and making this event happen, with special assistance from the warehouse team, who assisted in moving the event indoors due to the severe weather – you were lifesavers! 🌩️👏

From setting up the tables to prepping the delicious crawfish and side dishes, our Events Committee dedication and cooperation shined bright. 💪😋 We laughed, feasted, and made memories that will last a lifetime. The night was filled with the perfect blend of team spirit and mouth-watering flavors. 🍽🤩

Spending too much time around loud noise, without the proper hearing protection can cause hearing loss. But once hearing damage has occurred, you can't get it back.

This is called noise-induced hearing loss, and the most at-risk group is teens and young adults. Many are not aware of the level of noise that can be damaging to hearing.

The Center for Disease Control estimates that roughly 12.5% of those aged 6-19 and 17% of those between the ages of 20 and 69 have suffered permanent damage to their hearing from excessive noise exposure. Read more from the CDC here: https://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/hearingloss/noise.html....
