This Saturday is National Make a Difference Day. It is an excellent teachable moment for your Littles. Through watching you give back to your community, you are demonstrating empathy. And isn’t that the goal…to raise empathetic children! It can be as simple as picking up litter in your neighborhood or park or as intricate as organizing a charitable drive for a deserving group. Talk to your family about how they would like to make a difference.

How do you like THESE apples?!?
🍎 Apples are a bountiful source of calcium, so if you aren’t into milk or those ginormous horse pills, then eat an apple a day. 10.9 mg/Apple
🍏 With 75,000 varieties of apples, if you did eat one a day, it would take you more than 20 years to try them all.
🍎 Although there is no caffeine in apples, an apple is said to give you more energy than coffee because of its sugar content. Because the sugar is bound with the fiber, it lasts longer than coffee’s jolt.
🍏 Apples are a good source of fiber, and fiber helps you go 💩. Eat it with the peel on though. Bonus! Fiber may lessen acid reflux.
🍎 Apples may help reduce cholesterol.
🍏 Apple research shows they may also reduce the risks of cancer and type 2 diabetes.
🍎 The acid in apples may help brighten teeth.

Fun snack ideas include apples and peanut butter, apples and cheese, and Doula Jaimee’s favorite—apples, white cheddar, and just a smidge of fig jam. What are your suggestions?

Indigenous women are dying at a rate 2 to 3 times higher than non-Hispanic white mothers nationally. While keeping in mind the injustices perpetuated on Indigenous people in the past, recognize that it is still happening today, if mostly from neglect such as funding the Indigenous Health System.

One in ten Mamas and one in seven partners may experience perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

Please seek help, gather your support team, eat and hydrate, take breaks, go outside, participate in physical activity, and remember to tell yourself this (multiple times a day):

🌸 I will recover!
🌸 I am not alone!
🌸 This is not my fault!
🌸 I am a good Parent!
🌸 It is essential for me to take care of myself!
🌸 I am doing the best I can!

Our Story

Four States Doulas is a collective of individual doulas and other birth-related service professionals. While researching local doulas for one of her former students, Doula Jaimee discovered that there were almost no doulas in the Ark-La-Tex. She also found that there was a strong desire to have this resource for all families. Circumstances started to fall into place with all of the signs pointing Jaimee and her husband, Chad, to finally make their long-desired trek to return “home” to Texarkana.

Jaimee and Chad started making connections with professionals in the birth community while simultaneously preparing their home in Plano for sale. Within just a few months, they were on their way back home and had gathered a Tribe of women ready to serve their communities. Check out our Sisterhood page to meet our doulas.
