🍼💕 It was another amazing Mama and Baby Supplies Drive and Giveaway event at VPFW Prince George last week, helping over 50 families receive supplies they needed. We were overwhelmed by the generous U-Haul truckload of supplies donated by our community and the willingness of moms who’ve been there to help other families in need. And we simply couldn’t have done it without our wonderful partners at Villa Advocacy Group and all of the awesome VPFW and Villa volunteers!

We also want to thank our wonderful resource vendors who can provide support for moms and families with little ones throughout the year:

💗Urban Baby Beginnings
💗Healthy Families Virginia
💗Postpartum Support VA
💗Feedmore and local food bank resources

If you weren’t able to make it to the event, have an additional need, or have mama and baby supplies that could use a good home, please join the Villa RVA Facebook group and post any time: https://www.facebook.com/groups/562221792465894.

It takes a village - and we are proud to be part of yours!! 💞

💗 Whether they are telling us how to reduce our risk for ovarian cancer, teaching us about 3D mammograms, or explaining what happens to our bodies after menopause, our nurse practitioners help us understand our health and what impacts it — without judgement. We appreciate the compassionate care they provide to our patients and love having them as a part of the VPFW family. Here’s to Melissa Foster, Hollie Jones, and Lauren Cook - the best nurse practitioners around! 💞

💖 VPFW was proud to be a sponsor of the Bon Secours Violence Response Team Gala at the Science Museum of Virginia on Oct. 25 and support the specialized care and services it provides to survivors in the Richmond area.

VPFW’s Dr. Ashley Uvanni, who helps train the team’s “safe nurses” on how to perform pelvic exams, cares deeply about the team’s mission and is also on the planning committee for the gala and live auction that raises funding for the team - the only one of its kind in the Richmond area.

The Violence Response Team is comprised of specially trained forensic nurses and victim advocates who work in tandem to provide comprehensive care, including specialized medical attention, evidence collection, emotional support, advocacy support, and referrals for community resources.

Survivors of violence, including the types listed below, can visit the emergency department at any Bon Secours hospital in Greater Richmond to receive care and support from this highly trained team.

Inspired by her involvement with the Violence Response Team, Dr. Uvanni has written a guide to help victims of domestic abuse learn how to identify the broader forms of abuse and seek support before it comes to violence. In “From Crisis to Hope: Essential Domestic Violence Resources for Healing” (https://vpfw.com/blog/domestic-violence-resources/), Dr. Uvanni discusses the many forms domestic abuse can take, including manipulative or controlling behavior such as limiting access to financial resources, excessive online monitoring, verbal abuse, or gaslighting. She also lists several ways to find support, from hotlines and text lines to moving assistance and shelters.

We encourage anyone who has suffered violence to go to a Bon Secours Hospital and be seen by the Violence Response Team as soon as possible. If you’re experiencing abuse of any kind, please read Dr. Uvanni’s guide for ways to find support and a safe way out. Remember that you can feel safe approaching any provider at VPFW for help. 💞

✨💖 When you build a team of amazing doctors, more and more amazing doctors want to become part of it. 💖✨

Last night, we had the pleasure of meeting and toasting the eight newest physicians to join the VPFW family across all six of our locations. Three started seeing patients this fall, while five more will join in the summer and fall of 2026. Some already have established careers, and some are following the footsteps of their friends and mentors from medical school and residency to join the practice voted Best OB/GYN in Richmond. We are thrilled to welcome them all!

The 8 newest VPFW physicians:

🩺 Jessica Amero, M.D. (starting summer 2026 at the Koger Center and Prince George locations)

🩺 Megan Cassidy, M.D., M.S.C.P. (started September 2025 at the Koger Center location but will eventually move to the West End)

🩺 Kathy Hopkins, M.D. (starting summer 2026 at West End locations)

🩺 Evan Kraus, M.D. (starting summer 2026 at West End locations)

🩺 Sam Kraus, M.D. (starting summer 2026 at West End locations)

🩺 Natalie Macdisi, M.D. (started October 2025 at the St. Francis and Prince George locations)

🩺 Cole Messersmith, M.D. (started August 2025 at the St. Mary’s and Henrico Doctors’ locations)

🩺 Ayesha Yakubu, M.D. (starting fall 2026 at the St. Francis and Prince George locations)

New colleagues and old, mentors and mentees alike - all enjoyed the opportunity to meet, catch up, and learn more about each other. One of the greatest benefits of being a large practice is that for each doctor who joins VPFW, there’s a whole team behind them that is both happy to share their experience and expertise and open to learning fresh perspectives and approaches. We learn from each other to provide the best care possible. Please join us in welcoming our new team members to the VPFW family! 💗

More pics from the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk on Oct. 18!

It's an honor to be part of this amazing event each October, and this year we had another perfect day full of love, hope, and fun! Thank you to everyone who joined Team VPFW, donated to our fundraiser or stopped by our "most spirited tent" for a pic! 💗

We loved meeting so many survivors who are benefitting from the life-saving research and support the American Cancer Society provides as well as their family and friends supporting them on this journey. Remember: we are ALL worth the fight! 💞

💕🏃‍♀️Dr. Cara Hartle is running the New York City Marathon this Sunday, and her fundraiser for Every Mother Counts is in the final stretch! Donate to support Dr. Hartle and EMC in the next 48 hours, and VPFW WILL MATCH YOUR DONATION! Donate here: https://give.everymothercounts.org/fundraiser/6285287

When Dr. Hartle realized it had been 20 years since she ran her first marathon as a recent college grad (for Train to End Stroke with the American Stroke Association), she just knew she had to complete one more full marathon to celebrate the anniversary. Having 3 kids and starting a career as an OB/GYN meant she’d taken a long hiatus from running; but she wanted to make this last race epic and set her sights on the New York City Marathon. 🗽💕

After applying for a few charity marathon teams, Dr. Hartle was thrilled to learn that the nonprofit Every Mother Counts had chosen her! And who could blame them?! As one of our most community-focused OB/GYNs, Dr. Hartle fully believes in the EMC mission: for all people, everywhere, to experience a safe, respectful, and equitable journey through pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. It’s a tall order, accomplished through advocacy, raising awareness, and investing in community partners who are working to solve the issues affecting maternal health. 💞

Dr. Hartle has always felt strongly about what EMC supports all over the world. During her OB/GYN residency, she worked in Ghana providing maternity care to women who desperately needed it - many of whom would have died had she not been there. She’s grateful and excited to fundraise to help more mothers around the world receive safe and equitable care. 💗

With support from her family, coworkers, and fellow mama running buddies (shoutout to the Fit4Mom Richmond group that got her back into running!), it’s go time for Dr. Hartle. Make a donation to support her and her Every Mother Counts fundraising initiative in the next 48 hours, and VPFW will gladly match it! Here’s to Dr. Hartle, her amazing running journey, and her dedication to Every Mother Counts. 💖🏃‍♀️

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and Dr. Ashley Uvanni has created a guide to accessible resources for victims of domestic violence in Virginia. In it, you can learn how to identify domestic abuse — which is not limited to physical violence — and access support through hotlines, text lines, online chats, housing aid, shelters, and healthcare providers who are often some of the safest and easiest people you can reach out to when you need help.

You can find this guide to domestic violence resources at https://vpfw.com/blog/domestic-violence-resources/. Please know that you can always feel safe discussing your situation with your OB/GYN provider at VPFW. They are here to help and will connect you with resources you need to pursue safety.

*If you experience physical violence, one of the most important resources available to survivors in the Richmond area is the Bon Secours Violence Response Team. You can visit any Bon Secours hospital and ask to be seen by the Violence Response Team. This is a team of nurses and victim services advocates who are specially trained to support, both physically and emotionally, the survivors of violence and abuse.

Dr. Uvanni is involved with training some of the Violence Response Team’s “safe nurses” on how to conduct pelvic exams and drew from this experience as she put together this resource guide for survivors. She is also on the planning committee for the team’s fundraising gala, which VPFW was proud to sponsor this past weekend. 💜

Our Story

We are a Richmond ob/gyn practice with an expert team comprised of thirty compassionate providers and more than one hundred fifty staff members who are dedicated to giving you the best, personalized care possible. We strive to be your partners and collaborators, working to guide you towards the treatment plans and preventive screenings that fit your lifestyle and meet your medical needs.

You know that you’re more than a number, so why put up with an ob/gyn who treats like one? At Virginia Physicians for Women, we provide you with the attention and care you deserve, and you’ll find that we treat you as the unique and dynamic woman you are.

As a physician-owned practice, we are invested in putting you and your health first. We’re your neighbors and your friends. We are part of your community, and, together, we can make the women in our region healthier and happier. In fact, even beyond our workdays, you’ll find us volunteering, supporting organizations like March of Dimes, the Bon Secours forensic nursing program, American Cancer Society, the Ronald McDonald House, and more. Why do we do it? It’s for the same reason that motivates us to serve the women of our region…it’s simply the right thing to do. Of course, we have a lot of fun along the way, too.
