Watts Bugging You

Watts Bugging You Books & products aimed at helping parents talk thru real life scenarios (cancer, adoption, bullying..) using faith, children's language, & characters (Bugs)

At Watt’s Bugging You, we have a BUG mission to touch children’s and parent’s lives. Our series of children’s books and products are aimed at helping parents talk through real life scenarios (terminal illness, death, adoption, disabilities, etc.) with their young children (2-6 yrs. old) using faith messages, children’s language, and children’s characters (Bugs). As part of our mission to give back and support the families we serve, we are committed to donating a percentage of all book proceeds to organizations paying it forward to kids. To find out more about the series, please continue to visit our web site and click on Kristen Barnett’s video, the author and founder of the Watt’s Bugging You Series.

THANK YOU TO THE UNIVERSE! Sometimes the universe reminds us why we do what we do. Today one of my friends wrote to me wanting several copies of my book due to a sweet boy named Carson who is in remission of a brain tumor. She wants Carson to have a copy, but more importantly wants books he can pass out to his friends who are still battling the beast. The great part is Carson will be able to give away books, but also help in our Camp Wapiyapi campaign of sending a child with cancer or their sibling to camp. Of course, we wish Cancer never existed, but happy we're able to give Carson a way to give back. Anyway, I had to share this story, not because of the books, but to remind all of us that we can make a difference! When we think life is an uphill battle - we can find ways to help others! Please continue to pray and give good karma to kids like Carson!

Really excited that one of the "Major Book Reviewers, Midwest Book Reviews" reviewed my first book of the Watts Bugging You Series and this was their review: "Thoroughly 'kid friendly' in language, messaging, organization and presentation, "The Bug Who Thought He Lost His Buzz: What Happens When the Big Bad Beast Stings" should be a part of every children's hospital and community library collections in the country. It should also be noted for the personal reading lists of parents with a child that has been diagnosed with a serious and life-threatening illness. Highly recommend it." The actual review can be found at: http://www.midwestbookreview.com.

I have had the opportunity recently to be a guest on several radio shows to discuss the Watts Bugging You Series, but today it was an honor to have Christian, one of the people I dedicated my first book to, join me. Christian is an inspiration and believe we impacted someone's life today as Christian told his story of beating the odds of heart defects, liver cancer, and liver transplants; which is what this whole journey is about. Anyway, the sunrise greeted us as we entered the building and believe the sunrise was a sign that hope, faith, and grace was in the room and on the KPOF radio airways. Thanks once again to everyone who has supported and continues to support our mission! If you haven't had the chance, please visit our website at: www.wattsbuggingyou.com to see what our heart project is all about and what you can do to help us get the word out!

SEND A CHILD WITH CANCER TO CAMP - Watts Bugging You is partnering with Camp Wapiyapi to help send a child with Cancer and their sibling to summer camp. By going to www.wattsbuggingyou.com, you can buy and donate a book. For each book donated and sold, a child with cancer, or an organization who helps families dealing with pediatric cancer, will receive a special book by Watts Bugging You. "The Bug Who Thought He Lost His Buzz" was written to help parents talk to their young children about being diagnosed with a serious illness. A percentage of proceeds will be donated to Camp Wapiyapi to help send a child with cancer and/or their sibling to camp this Summer. Your kind gift, will help give a child who is facing pediatric cancer the best gift of all…a week of laughter, joy, fun, and good memories! As a special bonus, when you go to the Watts Bugging You web site and donate a book, you will have the chance to write a special note to a child who receives your donation. For only $16.95, you can make a BUG difference to children and families who are battling cancer – the gift of joy, special healing, and a gift that keeps on giving! To help us reach our goal, please share this post and follow Watts Bugging You on Facebook and Twitter.

COME JOIN ME IN SHARING THE REASON FOR THIS SEASON - If you're like me, I am always trying to find ways to pay it forward with my daughter especially during the holidays. The nice part is now that I'm getting the word out about the Watts Bugging You Series and our heart for helping children and families - I have more and more organizations who connect with our vision and who ask for our assistance. If you live in Denver and you don't want to be the Grinch, but want your heart to grow 10x's this season, then please respond to this post and join me in one or more of the below events. If you don't live in Denver, I hope you can find your own way of paying it forward and finding the true meaning of this season.

THANKSGIVING: (Sponsored by Camp Kind and tax deductible) – 1) You can buy an entire Thanksgiving dinner for 2 people @ $25 or $100 for a family. These dinners are for seniors, single parents, and other people who may not be able to afford to buy a Thanksgiving dinner. 2) We will be delivering the Thanksgiving dinners on Thanksgiving morning if you’d like to join us. All family members are welcome to join. (The donated dinners will be delivered in North Denver area – Thornton, Westminster, Broomfield, Northglenn, Louisville, etc.) To find out more information please write to: info@campkind.org or call Benjy, Camp Director, @ 720-608-6099.

CHRISTMAS: 1) Warren Village (1323 Gilpin St, Denver, CO 80218)– An organization that helps single, homeless families get back to sufficiently being able to take care of their families. They have a holiday shop every year where parents can shop for free and their children can receive gifts for Christmas. Prior to the event, you can donate items from their list. To request the list of items and the drop off locations, please write to Molly, the Volunteer Coordinator, at mbarfuss@warrenvillage.org. 2) The actual Holiday Shop will take place on December 15th where you can volunteer in childcare, wrapping gifts, or helping the parents shop for gifts. The Holiday Shop goes from 9am-4 pm. Children need to be 14 yrs. + to volunteer at the event. To complete a volunteer interest form, please go to https://warrenvillage.org. Due to my book being read by Santa at another event, I will only be able to volunteer from 9 – 11 am. 3) On December 26th, I will be volunteering during the day at Brent’s Place (a home away from home for Cancer patients and their families as the children are being treated for Cancer). At this event, we will be giving parents and caretakers a break as we do crafts and story time with children with cancer and their siblings. Of course, we’ll be reading my book. (Due to needing a sterile environment, children also need to be teenagers to participate)

Lately, I have posted a lot about the books we're writing, but if you have not yet read any of my work (eg. my blogs) or heard any of my radio clips, please visit my website @ www.wattsbuggingyou.com. My events page @ http://wattsbuggingyou.com/events/. What's awesome is we are now hearing from reputable journalists who have said - "You can really write". I've heard from readers who have said "Your words spoke to me". My vision was not just about writing books. My hope is I touch the heart of my readers. The last blogs which focus on the loss of my dog and how you discuss tough topics with your children is now on my blog site. I will admit the blogs are really raw since I lived through the writing. There is a blog on talking through tough questions (http://wattsbuggingyou.com/anwering-lifes-toughest-questio…/), how to help your child talk through losing man's best friend (http://wattsbuggingyou.com/its-a-doggie-dog-world-how-to-h…/), and writing a legacy for your pet (http://wattsbuggingyou.com/dearest-mugsy/). I hope the writing touches you like it did me and look forward to hearing your feedback.
